The options show 3440 x 1440 @ 60hz, but even enabled I still get black bars along the sides liike its in a lower resolution.
The WSGF .exe just prevented my game from launching.
The WSGF .exe does actually work, I forgot to create a shortcut of it and instead tried launching it from the desktop icon that Steam installs. Just create a shortcut and place it on the desktop and it works fine.
The game is optimized like ♥♥♥♥ though, 1080ti @ 3440x1440 and I drop frames alot. I also sucks that the games is capped @ 60 fps with no work arounds to bypass it.
You can still use the modified exe from WSGF to get ultrawide, but much like Advanced3 noted, it's terrible. I've got a nVidia 1080 and it was choppy even after I dropped the quality lower than I liked.
I'm using Black Flag's standard 3440x1440 setting (which is normal widescreen with black bars on the sides to fill it out) where the game runs well enough on my 1080 with the fancy graphics features turned on.
What I did instead was modify the FOV. That made it playable for me. It was a revelation. The Black Flag world is gorgeous if only you can see it.
Note: This fix doesn't give you ultrawide, but makes 16:9 widescreen better for PC players.
Go to PCGamingWiki's Black Flag page and down to the video settings. Click the link to Jim2point0's FOV modifier. It's a Cheat Engine table, so you'll need CE if you don't already have it. https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed_IV:_Black_Flag#Video_settings
(Run Black Flag and load your game. Alt-tab out and load the table into cheat engine. File -> Open Process. Choose the running Black Flag game. Now check the "camera manipulation" box. Alt-tab back into Black Flag)
You can modify the FOV in game, zoom in and out as much as you like with the [ ] keys. You can even zoom out so far that the scene inverts and you're zooming back in again but upside down.
Sometimes when I start Black Flag the menu is messed up with an ultra ultra wide letterbox look. When that happens, a restart of the game fixes it. I'm not sure what's going on there exactly. If all else fails, changing the resolution with the internal menu should force the video settings back to standard for a restart.
Don't forget to delete the logo movies to make starting Black Flag less painful. https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed_IV:_Black_Flag#Essential_improvements
So I followed your instructions until that point, but I can't see any option for "camera manipulation", I only see options for speedxxxx, pause the game while scanning, unrandomizer.
Where did I go wrong here?
I was playing Black Flag on my 3440x1440 without any mods, etc. in the finest full screen without bars. Just worked. But I was using an HDMI cable.
Now today my display port cable arrived, and now I have the damn black bars... wtf??
Maybe a dumb question but how do you extract the files? Because I dragged both the sp and mp files out and it never asked for a password so I figured I'm doing something wrong. I replaced the files with the new 21:9 files but it wont launch. I got the game from Uplay
Yup so I've replaced both folders with the two 21:9 files and when I try to launch it on UPlay, it says unable to start the game and asks me to locate the folder which then leads to UPlay verifying the folder.
