Dropping frames on a high end PC
Every now and then the game gets a little choppy. It's not continually choppy, only now and then it seems like it drops a few frames. I tried turning off physx particles, V-sync, god rays and a few other graphic settings, but didn't make a difference. Turned almost all of the settings to low and it still drops a few frames every few seconds. Literally makes no difference.

Just for perspective, I just played GTA V on the same computer and the frame rate is pretty steady around 60 fps with no choppyness at all, with almost every graphics setting on max.

My specs:
i7 7700
GTX 970
8GB RAM

Is there something I can do to make it smoother?

there were also other solutions to do with changing the priority of AC4BFSP.exe from task manager and changing affinity. That also didnt help.

I gave up and put all graphics settings on low and off but still 15 fps.

Finally i just bumped the resolution down two bumps until i got it running smoothly. If you have lower resolution you can turn all the graphics up high and get high fps. I just think it has a problem with 1920x1080. The lower resolution isnt that bad and you can play the game so it worked for me pretty well id say.

shadows and godrays, drop them one notch. Those consume more Ram and hence your hiccups.
This game gave me issues and I had a 980Ti (now I use a 1080Ti and even thoug still the fps drops), 16 GB Ram and i7 4790k Processor.

Go into the nvidia control pannel and turn off vsync and tripple buffering. Also turn off the particals in side of the game. I am not sure what it would be for ATI. I have the NVIDIA 1060 and this is the only game that I have had issues with that I have had to go into these settings of the control pannel.

and yet.... still a valid point and annoying perf issue. And it is nice to see people digging forum to raise up stuff instead of creating yet an another "perf ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" stuff

Just in case anyone is still looking at this thread. Try setting anti-aliasing to SMAA and Physix particles to low. This did the trick for me.

If anyone out there is looking for a possible fix, what did it for me was manually dedicating my GPU to be the PhysX processor. You do this by entering NVIDIA Control Panel (barring that you have an NVIDIA GPU), clicking on Configure Surround, PhysX on the left pane, then on the right hand side you’ll see a box containing a dropdown menu under the title PhysX Processor. Set this to your GPU and that should do the trick.
