Horned Graug Spawns
Hey, has anyone figured out the conditions for spawning a horned graug? I've been trying to get Hunter 10 for at least an hour and I can't get them to spawn.

I read that fast traveling a bunch of times to a tower near a spawn point (Cape of Nurn and Harad Basin were the ones I used) would work, but after LOTS of tries I still have yet to see one.

To be clear, I know these spawn points work under certain conditions because I have fought and killed horned graug at these locations earlier in the game. I just can't get it to work now.

I read it has to be daytime, but other than that, I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

Additional spawn points would be appreciated as well. I've roamed around the entire map on a caragor a couple times without finding anything. You would think there would be at least one, somewhere on the map. I think I'm probably missing a spawn condition.

In the second map, port to the tower that is in the southwestern side. North of it is a cave where a horned graug can be found. The graug will be marked red for you when you go into that special vision mode.

If he isn't there (might be 2 caragors spawning there instead) then teleport back to the tower and retry. Took me around 8 tries for him to spawn.

This was during daytime and after I finished the main mission.

Thanks for the response. I did try this cave several times without any results, but I finally got my spawn by porting to the first map. I looked down from the tower and there he was, right below me! Unfortunately I am none the wiser for figuring out these spawns, but at least I got the achievement.

My advice to anyone with similar problems is to do other missions (Survivalist or weapon challenges) and hope you come across one in your travels. I found it nearly impossible to get one to spawn intentionally - all three I faced were completely unexpected.

An extra tip for anyone who's doing this, it works quite well to go to the western tower then the cave, but if you bleed the graug and then caragor come, keep atatcking the graug, I found one on my first shot but a caragor ended up killing him and it didn't count.

Good tip. Also, keep in mind if you have the abilities unlocked you can use your bow to instantly mount the Graug and then kill him by draining his life force. This is a much more reliable way to get the kill.

I didn't even know I can shadow mount the Graugs until last 2 weeks.
Killed by them several times because the QTE failed.

Oh my god, look at the hours I have in this game and I didn't even know I could shadow mount them. Ha, now I'm gonna ride me some graugs! It was really hard to do that last chance/QTE/whatever move thing to mount them using gamepad.

Shadow mount is OP. Talion really becomes a God in later stages of the game. Absolutely nothing can kill my character.

Yeah, to be honest I think shadow mount really cheapens the kill. Horned Graug are probably the most dangerous enemy in the game and upgrading your abilities allows you to kill one without fighting it.

At least there's still the side quest where you have to fight the white one.

i went back to the first map and it spawned me at the center tower with a horned graug right below me.

Shadow Mount is way too easy. There's a note somewhere that says horned graug can't be mounted until weakened, but that's just Meh.

This is my ONLY achievement left to do in the main game. :D I found a graug, but it ain't horned. Darn it! (Or maybe it was, but an Orc killed it while I was riding it. Meh)

The Horned Graug spawns pretty consistently where you first encounter it, in the northern part of the Black Gate map by the cave. A lot of people don't seem to get that the first Graug you meet in the game is a Horned Graug; I certainly didn't, until my second playthrough.

Not a side-quest. Mandatory for completing the game.

so to get the graug i:

1) Fast traveled to Tirith Mesas in the Sea of Nurnen
2) Moved north along the shoreline until I found the cave
3) If the cave had 2 caragors instead of a graug I repeated steps 1-2
4) When I found the graug, I snuck up behind it (it always spawns crouching and facing the inside of the cave
5) I used a bleed attack
6) I shot the graug with 2 successive charged shots in the head after it finished roaring
7) Now that the graug was stunned, I got close to mount and dominate it
8) I did the quicktime event after mounting it (Y, Hold RB, Y, Hold RB, Y, Last Chance)
9) I pressed RT+B to kill it
10) I finished the hunting challenge

I also have a video for anyone who's interested.
Good stuff Yee.
