Hints for the new guy please
I am new to the game and was wonderin' if anybody could give me usefull hints to help progress in the game.
I like the game but i find myself doing more "free roam" instead of missions, because i don't really know what's going on. I see the ork Captains' getting stronger, should I go after them, grind the weapon upgrades or save some slaves?
Thank you in advance for your time

IMHO unlike other open-world games you really need to do the Story missions (Yellow/Gold icons) before the free roam stuff (on your first playthrough).

This is because you need to get about halfway through the Story before the game explains everything that's going on with the Captains (i.e. the Nemesis system).

Focus on missions that give you +Power (Yellow & Red icons) to unlock important abilities and advance the Story enough to unlock the Brand power (by completing a Story mission).

You won't really understand what the game is about until you unlock that power.

Note that you can ALWAYS come back and do the free-roam missions later - even after you finish the main Story.

In other games you'd want to grind the side missions to level up before tackling the Story. In this game you need to advance the story in order to level up.

I did a mix of both. I would do some story missions to unlock the powers I wanted (Have 400 hours logged on PS4 so I know what is what lol), and then go do power missions so I could unlock the next tier of abilities. I find myself roaming a lot as well, just finding random captains and either branding or killing them for more power.

If you think you can yes, it gives you power which in turn unlocks new skill tiers.

Yah sorry not saying totally exclude all the side missions in favor of the Story missions, just that if you're doing side-missions exclusively, you're gonna be confused for a while on your first playthrough.

First playthrough is confusing anyway up until you Fight the hammer and figure out what's going on anyway.

As someone who got frustrated early on and almost gave up on it, but has come to really ENJOY this game, here's my advice:

1. Do the collectibles. If you see an icon on the map for a sword, broken sword, or bow: try it. If you see other collectibles in white, go after those. These help unlock weapon upgrades.

2. Do the yellow missions and the red missions. They unlock skills.

3. Before you do a mission, hover over it and see what it is. See if it's out of your league or not.

4. Don't be afraid to run away. Run away and run towards healing plants. OR ... just climb high and hide. Orcs don't generally climb. Better to fight another day.

5. Don't worry about dying. Yes. Every time an orc kills you, he gets more powerful and his rank goes up. HOWEVER, I often find that when an orc moves up, they are a LOWER level than the orc they are replacing. So, in a way, every time I died, individual orcs moved up, but the overall level was becoming EASIER. Up to a point.

6. At first, don't worry about not being able to catch captains. When you level up your skills, it'll be easy.

7. Watch your counter-attack prompts. If your timing is good, you can counter-attack all day long.

8. Get intel on captains by interrogating certain orcs (who show up in green) or interrogating other captains, or picking up intel off the dead, in strongholds, etc. Intel will tell you their strengths and weaknesses. These are VERY important in taking down captains quickly.

9. Don't be surprised when captains come back after you kill them. After all, YOU keep coming back too!

10. Stealth as much as you can. Big fights are fun, but it's easy to end up killed in a mob at low level.

BEST ADVICE I RECEIVED: Your goal ISN'T to "kill all captains". So don't worry too much about it. Just have fun killing those you get.

Killing a captain or warchief gives you runes. You get a rune matching how you kill them, so if you stealth kill them you get a dagger rune and so on. This can be useful to upgrade a weak part of your character. Also Warchiefs are your one true target in the first area. You only kill captains to make your time killing warchiefs much easier. Side quests are important parts but prioritize the main story quests. The main story quests are so important as others have stated. Generally the epic runes are better if that wasn't obvious. I found that running now and fighting later if you can't deal with the fight to be much better than fight now and die. I will say that it is sometimes it's worth killing a warchief even if that means your own demise if that is what your mission requires as long as it doesn't fail you. Like in the first are it says kill 4 warchiefs, you may have to sacrifice your self to kill them by killing them but you put yourself in an unescapale situation. Hope I helped to some degree! :Stab:

Yeah don't be afraid of sacrificing hordes of captains to kill warchiefs
