You can have the Compass item have a 2nd needle that locates nearby treasure within the players current room, and then you no longer need super obvious indicators that something isn't right about the room.
You'd both be making the compass more interesting and have actual secret treasure that the player can still acccess without the compass so long as they know where to typically look. It would feel more rewarding to stumble upon the secret then to have it handed to you.
Edit: anyways my main point was that the demo had a lot of well hidden stuff to find while in the full version everything is obvious.
Gee I wonder if there is something secret about this room, surely that dark entrance isn't there for no reason, right?

It's no fun finding hidden stuff if it isn't actually hidden. Just stop "hiding" them if you're going to make them this obvious. I repeat that it was handled way better in the demo.
