Farming Fairy Chests for better survivability
So, I am playing through NG+ right now and I've been hearing that past NG4 it is pretty ridiculous to play because the enemies are so powerful. I collected all of the runes in my first playthrough so Fairy Chests only give stat upgrades now. Assuming that there aren't caps on how many stat upgrades you can collect, why doesn't anyone farm fairy chests in the lower levels of NG+ to beef themselves up before tackling NG+6 and beyond? It seems like in NG2 after I have maxed my character it would be a simple thing to run through the castle, collect every fairy chest I can, avoiding most enemies, die on purpose, and repeat for about 50 lives, and then NG3 would be a piece of cake. With the right classes it could be done in an hour or two. Rinse and repeat, then play up to NG9000!

That's A LOT of grinding, but yes, you can do that forever if you want. The amount of boring farming you'd have to do to make NG+10 and beyond playable again is not reasonable. I'm on NG+30 and it isn't any "harder" than NG+5, because I know how to beat the bosses. I cleared NG+29 with one death. You'll have a better time if you just assassin-rush for the boss rooms, and make sure you have 5 grace on.

Yeah, it's just too long and not worth it... if you have 1500 health and hit for 250, getting to 1505 health and hitting for 251 isn't going to make much of a difference.

Bosses are what let you progress and they tend to be pretty easy.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It would be somewhat useless for the higher levels of NG+. The only reason I mention it is because I actually like to fight all the enemies on the way to the boss!

You make a good point in that trash mobs give absolutely no benefits at higher NG+; they are to be avoided entirely. And it seems silly to have such a large part of the gameplay (most of the gameplay, really) become something that players seek to avoid completely.

My main problem with this game is its tendency to be a pseudo-bullet hell game. That's not really "rogue-like" IMO.
Good thing they don't call the game a roguelike then, I guess.

Actually what they call it is worse. They call it "Rogue-Lite," which implies that it is just like Rogue, but easier. Which is hardly the case.

Except that it's in the context of the entire Store page. You only have to glance at one screenshot to see that the game isn't intended to be "just like Rogue". That should in turn tell you that your inference about what their term means needs revision.

I think it's a perfectly apt term, quite clever really. It invokes the idea (through obvious rhyme) of the roguelike, but the "lite" part tells you it doesn't intend to stick to the formula entirely. "Lite" doesn't mean easy, it means simpler - it means something's been taken out. In this case, what's been taken out is strict adherence to the permadeath attitude that these days is the most defining aspect of the roguelike.

the stat boosts are too small to make much of a difference in new game 5 and above.

and you say "implies that the game is easier than rogue, but that's hardly the case"
have you played rogue? rogue is impossible by design. the creator had a buddy that would play it and every time the buddy beat it, the creator would tweak it harder until it became unwinnable

Gus= You have started to argue a completely different point. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing now. My original point was that the bullet-hell aspect of this game is very far from a "rogue-like" game. The developers may not have used that term, but this game is purposefully derived from that game. The other type of game it is modeled after are metroidvania games, which are also not bullet-hell heavy. I just don't feel that the bullet hell aspect has a place in this type of game.

Eviltwin= learn to read. The line "which is hardly the case" refers to the subject of the previous sentence, which was that Rogue Legacy is implied to be similar to the game Rogue. The part about the game being easier than rogue was NOT the subject of the sentence, but a parenthetical statement, hence being offset by a comma. I never claimed that Rogue Legacy was not easier than Rogue.
No, I was arguing because I didn't think you were being particularly rational. You were judging the game based on a label it never identifies itself as, and besides, Rogue Legacy has no obligation to stick to traditions established by other games, no matter how similar it appears in other aspects. Games are what they are. I've well and truly said my piece on the matter now though, I'm sure we can agree.

If u already maxed your char, NG 3 shouldn't be that problem.
But is it worth to farm the chests for hours?
Mostly you get 5 health/mana or 2 armor. I guess at NG255 doesnt matter if you got 200hp more cause of this chests.
