I can't kill Herodotus.
Any tips for killing this guy? I can't do much to him and it's pretty annoying because I get pretty far in, but the mini slimes are just too fast. I've tried to concentrate on slime at a time but it gets too complicated with so many. Level 85 and I can't do this, kind of embarassing.

Use the Dragon. Fly around the room, shooting at him when you get the chance, and kill the mages as soon as they spawn (simply fly to the ceiling, they can't do any damage here). It is long, but pretty safe. The last part (when he breaks into little slimes) can be annoying, but if you roll a Dragon with PAD it's easy as pie.

Or, try spellsword with fire barrier. OP as heck. juggle him to death in a corner wall.

On normal, an Archmage with maxxed MP on Kill or MP+HP on Kill runes and Fire Barrier running just melted him. In New Game+ I used a Barbarian King with maxxed Retribution on his armor and runes both and just ran back and forth on the ground floor like an idiot, blindly swinging my sword. Both methods worked like a charm.

Vampirism is very useful as each mini-slime and wizard enemy will give you health.
Barbarian King with four or five Vamp, using Shout to get breathing room when need be, was how I beat him the first time around.

Focus on one half at a time. After the first split, only split one half, then one of those halves, and so on, so that you have a minimum of slimes to deal with at any given moment. When you kill the smallest slimes possible, then split the next-smallest segment and kill its smallest slimes, then split the next-smallest, and so on, until you finish one half completely and can start on the other. It takes longer and you have to be patient (don't split that other half early, even if you have a great chance to do it!), but it's the safest way to go about things.

Is Vampirism the same as the Siphon ability? Or do you get more health per kill with Vampirism, because it seems to subtract lots of your health. I've been going Health/Armor/Strength for a while now. My Barbarian has something near 600-670 health. But does about 50 damage a hit, which to me is bad. I have 4 Siphon abilties, so I get 4 HP/MP per kill, and a 10% gold gain.

Vampirism gives you 2 health per-kill, per-point of Vamp. So, twice that of Siphon.
Edit: Shjade is correct, I don't use Siphon ever, kind of mixed it up.

Vamp is 2 health per kill.
Siphon is 2 MANA per kill.
Balance is 1 of each per kill.

So if I have 3 vampirism runes and 2 balance runes (my preferred setup for most runs), I gain 8 health and 2 mana for every kill.

My best strat for Herodotus was using a Gigantic Spellsword with the Fireball Circle magic. I murdered it in about 10 seconds.

Lich king and Crowstorm, just get a good amount of hp/mp and bam the fight requires no effort, just spam crowstorm till dead. Not sure how effective this is on New game 1 since I did this on NG+.

U have to kill him that's all

I struggled with him as well until I got a Lich King with flame shield. I farmed up 400+ hp and 600+ mana and it was a piece of cake.

Also, if you happen upon a hero with no foot pulse... not having to worry about the floors spikes is a huge help!

A barbarian king or something with the Axe spell works very well. The arc on that spell is perfect for taking out the wizard guys.
