Anyone got an SNES controller to work with this?
I have a Retrolink USB adapter for an actual SNES controller. The controller works for emulation (I've used it for the Atari Vault and the Sega Collection in the past), and various tests show the buttons and everything work, but this game simply will not recognize most of the buttons. What's worse is that I actually DID have this controller working (reasonably well, menu buttons didn't function) on my previous PC, but since switching to a new PC, I can't get it to work at all. I even tried a key mapping program to assign the buttons to keyboard buttons, and even that didn't really work well ( and it made the D-Pad very unresponsive.)

set use direct input controller to yes in options with your keyboard. plug in controller, restart, play!
I used JoytoKey for this one, same hardware controller-wise.
Game went from punishingly brutal with KB or cheap usb controller clone, to awesome with SNES controller via USB. Good times!

Have you tried configuring the controller through Steam's big picture mode?

I actually got it working using a program to map the xbox controller inputs onto the SNES controller. Worked for Spelunky too, but it did require a bit more effort than I would have liked. But it does work better than it did on Win7 at least. All of the buttons actually work now.

I just ended up getting an 8bitdo SF30 Pro controller. it works like a DREAM. plus I can use it on my Switch natively, as well as my Rpi3 and my Surface Pro 4 with bluetooth or wired in Xinput mode perfectly fine. Theoretically I suppose I could use it on my phone as well.

Either way I recommend getting it because it's really nicely constructed, very good looking, AND it has analogue sticks, AND it's actually comfortable to use for long periods, AND it looks like a snes pad, AND the buttons just feel ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing to press, so yeah. If you want an xinput controller that looks like a SNES controller, the SF30 Pro, (or SN30 Pro if you REALLY must go for the godawful american SNES look, seriously, ugh, what is wrong with you), is your best bet.
