How is this game with a keyboard and mouse?
Title --> How is this game with a keyboard and mouse?

I'm sure it would be better with a controller or a wheel, but I see the specs require a kb and mouse and I'm wondering if it's playable to a reasonable degree without a controller or wheel.

For example, how would it compare to driving in games like Watchdogs, GTA 4, Saint's Row 3 and 4, Far Cry 3 and 4, etc?

Yeah, I know, it's a racing game, not an open world shooter, but I'm just concerned about how well the cars handle, and things such as if you can use WSAD to steer and look around with mouse while driving - stuff like that and not something stupid like having to use arrow keys and such.

As I already mentioned, I'm sure a controller would be better, but I don't have one and I'm not gonna buy one - just want to know if I can play this game reasonably well with just keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for any opinions...

What, nobody has anything to say about this?
Should I assume it's because you're all playing it with a controller?

I'd think you'd be at a disadvantage. I think most people play on controllers. I myself play on the ol' xbox 360 controller, and I can put the car exactly where I want it in a slide or drift. People do play on the keyboard though.

Thanks for the reply! :D:
That's what I figure, but mostly I'm asking because I once bough a racing game - I think it was GRID, and it was all but completely worthless with keyboard and mouse.

I don't know about Ubisoft though, because if they made the driving similar to the way their cars handle in Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 2, 3, and 4 and Watchdogs, then it would be good enough as far as I'm concerned.

It`s fine for me. A little bit harder than Driver SF.

The cars slide around a lot at first with a lot of body roll, you might have difficulty with control. Once you start aquiring better parts the handling dials in. I would imagine if you had difficulty with Grid on the keyboard, The Crew would be worse.

Actually, I think my problem with Grid wasn't so much the controls or the car handling, but not being able to remap keys, IIRC.
How is the key remapping in The Crew?

Thanks for the replies. :D

Works well for both keyboard and controller as far as I can see. I'm able to remap to whatever keys with ease.

Awesome. Thanks again!

I play with keyboard even tho I have a xb360 controller, it really doesnt matter on what you play as long as you are used to it you'll do fine, i win vs friends with controller/wheel easily there's just a small difference at steering (you have to tap while they can turn just slightly) but if you configure turn sensitivity settings etc you won't have any problems, it's not at all a disadvantage if it's what you're used to.

Suprisingly enough, until I got a controller I played with a Mouse + Keyboard Combo. I was able to keep perfect control without having to get pissed unlike other games.

Well I just bought it, so I guess I'll see for myself soon enough.
Thanks for all the info everyone. :D:

I play this on a keyboard at the moment as I haven't yet invested in a controller but I find that it is ok but when it comes down to completing precision skills it can be really difficult as you don't quite have the finesse that you would get from a controller.

Yeah I'm sure you're right about that, but I've been playing it for a little over an hour, and so far, so good. I've managed to get used to the driving in every other game that has it, so I imagine I can conquer this one as well.

Actually, I'm having more trouble at the moment figuring out what I'm supposed to be doing than I am with driving... :cfacepalm:

Just look at the map. You can set the GPS to follow the story missions, or you can do the challenges around you to beef up your ride (making the missions much easier), or you can just explore!

Thank you Barricade! :D
