In my experience, The Crew and Unity play better with a controller (vs keyboard and mouse). I couldn't say what Far Cry 4's controller support is like as the game won't load while my 360 pad is plugged in. So I can only play that one with mouse and keyboard.
Plug in game pad after the game is already loaded. It also natively supports Dualshock 4 and displays the PSX icons. However, I prefer the kb/m controls. The game handles very well with KB/M, even driving.
DS isn't a terrible mistake just because you have to run 1 program, which actually adds more functionality over a normal gamepad like allowing you to assign KB/M buttons to gamepad, or assigning mouse movement to buttons or analog sticks.
However, it isn't directly plug in play in all games. You do have to download that one program to make it compatible with xinput only games.(xbox 360 gamepad supported games)
