Free DL The Crew not really free?

A guy on a forum I chat on said Ubisoft Club was offering The Crew as a free download. I checked the link he provided and sure enough, Ubisoft Club says you can get the game free through September. https://club.ubisoft.com/en-US/ubi30

OK, fine, I DL, install, verify game files, everything looks like I now own it. I see no way to get an activation code, so assume it's not necessary.

When I proceed to the point where there's a bike dealership, every bike says I must Buy The Crew Wild Run, which of course I refused to. Now I'm at a point where the handler has gotten me a pass to a multi event gathering near Detroit, for qualified racers only, but I'm told I can't buy the Elite Tuners unless I Buy The Crew The Wild Run.

Am I missing something here Ubi, I thought free meant free? What good is access to an entire race game's world if you're basically restricted to demo vehicles? That's not full access, ergo not really free.

the BASE game is free, DLC's not. Bikes are part of Wild Run DLC

Yeah, so I am learning. Apparently the Elite Tuners are too, and god knows what else.

The funny thing though, is every title load screen and the main menu itself says The Crew "Wild Run" on it, which obviously is not true if they're cheating you of the Wild Run addons.

Plus it's not saying to buy just Wild Run DLC, it's saying you have to buy The Crew Wild Run, which sounds like they expect you to buy the Wild Run version of the game.

I also looked on Steam, and the only separate packs are not even related to Wild Run. Wild Run is only sold as a separate version of the game for $30. This is bait, not a giveaway.

the crew "wild run" title always was since the release of the expansion, same will happend with Calling all Units.
But yeah, is a bit confusing. Free game is free, if like, buy dlcs to support devs i guess

So it's news to you that someone getting snotty about a legit complaint on a game is considered a fanboy hyper? What rock have you been living under?

And research, seriously? What part of the game launching with WILD RUN plastered all over it don't you get? Even if you know going in that Wild Run is an addon, this giveaway leads you to believe it's included just by the intro and menu screens. And Ubi has zero details mentioning the fact that Wild Run is not included, despite the giveaway being called that.

So tell me, how does one research such a cleverly hidden guise? By trial and error, that's how. They obviously set it up that way, so most won't know until they're a ways into the game. That's so idiots like you will say what the hell, and drop $30 on a supposedly "free" game.

for sure because this is a MMO type of server, the game will be always up to date... you have all DLCs and Expansions already preinstalled, just you account is limited access, buying the Wild Run they will unlock it for you ... you wont download anything.

Battle.net is setup the same way

That doesn't make the deception any better. In fact it's common practice anymore not just for mandatory online connection games, but also offline games to often have content on disc that is locked. They should have, and easily COULD have said up front on the DL page that you aren't actually getting the full game, especially considering it's labeled Wild Run when it launches. The reason they didn't is obvious, it's Ubi up to their micro trans hijinx as usual.

after the update in 2015 you'll see the Wild Run logo, but to acess the events and tuners you need to buy the expansion they never say you will get Season pass, Will run or Calling all units only the base game
