Zombies climbing fortified fences.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or part of the game, but the zombies manage to climb over my barbed wire fences without a second thought. What's the point of having fortified walls in the first place if they don't stop zeds?

Yeah, no dead will care about scratch.
Since we know they knew how to climb, I think the only issue is they will never stuck on it like in real life, odd, indeed.

That's probably a good idea for a mod! To really make fences defend your base and not just for decoration!
Can you imagine in Snyder Trucking Warehouse, where zombies must come knocking on your doors because they can't climb over fences! :spazwinky:

I *think*...*maybe* zombies climbing over barbed-wire fences take a bit of damage in the process. They do seem easier to kill once they've climbed over vs. ones that didn't climb over.

On the gameplay side of things, zeds can climb over any fence, barb wire or not. They take no damage. It is not a bug, it has been like this since day one and devs have discussed it.

I can't remember the exact reasoning the devs gave, but it was most likely to avoid some programming issues they were having (AI logic or pathing or something along those lines).

For in universe logic, you can come up with whatever reasoning you want for it to make sense. I think the devs have simply said the zeds are so single minded they don't even notice the barbed wire and just keep going even if the get a bit tangled on it.

You can probably find topics on this on the official forums if you care enough to search:

GAH!!! That looks really, really painful - even for a zombie.

It's not a matter of pain. That stuff is RAZOR WIRE. Ever see it up close? Over 1 inch long razor edged barbs.
It wouldn't HURT them, with decaying and rotted flesh, it would TEAR the muscle to BITS. Even the scientifically improbable world of dead flesh sprinigng to life, that's no explanation for bones animating separate from the central nervous system entirely.

Translation:
Too lazy or incompetent to write the code.

Seriously, having them hang in the wire for a while wouldn't be too hard. Animation for them slowly wriggling through it, and bob's your uncle. If that's "too hard", then they need some competent coders.

Barbwire wasn't designed to kill or critically hurt. Lots of people escaped prisons, even going over barbwire and most only come out with cuts.

Only because they prepared some sort of protection ahead of time. I don't know if you've ever tried climbing over barbed wire, but it's specifically designed to stick in you like a fishhook and force you to either stay in place or rip a part of your skin/flesh to get out, both of which incapacitate you and make you easier to capture.

Razor wire is even worse since it will cut through material very easily; all it needs is the pressure from, say, someone trying to go over it and it'll cut through both the protective material and the person in short order. Trying to climb over it without protection is basically suicide by razor blades.

No. That would damage the cattle it was designed to restrict the movement of.
