Opening the door and plowing through zombies with it does minor dmg to the doors. eventually the back door will falloff followed by the front door.
Sounds like it's preferable to use over the bumper.
Backing over them vs hitting them with the front bumper does less damage too, but the car will start to smoke and eventually catch fire. Just more slowly than hitting with the front bumper. Makes sense since the radiator and engine are in the front and more prone to damage. The exhuast and fuel tank in the rear would eventually be damaged.
In lifeline, the I have only damaged the military pickup by hitting a juggernaut or by hitting an obstacle (wall, another car, fireworks, etc..).
Also, Ferals are hard to kill if you attack straight-line with a vehicle. I tend to go back-and-forth while zig-zagging and banging my doors. That usually does the trick. If a feral jumps on the right side of your vehicle, he'll pull you out in short order, so scape him off as fast as you can.
A Juggernaut hit will wreck you car. A bloater hit will poison your car, so get out ASAP.
If you've beaten your car up enough that it's steaming like crazy and you may have possibly even seen a small burst of flame, stop hitting thigs with it as you're getting close to catching it on fire.
If you do catch it on fire, get the rucksacks in the trunk out. You have enough time. Just drop them on the ground, they'll stay there until you can get them with your new car. The big problem you'll be having is that you'll be attracting zombies and have to fight as well as unload the vehicle.
Thanks for the tips!
