Does anyone know how to unlock this character, I don't really want to purchase the bell weapon on its own?

Are there any "vendors" inside a run? 2. Is there a "bestiary" unlockable in game? 3. Are there any "secrets"? In the 4th zone there is a book or something just above and the left of start in the black wall i cant find a way to get it is it a known bug or is something wrong with my game?
