I picked Blacksmith profession and really enjoyed mining and crafting! The unlocking new recipes by making new items mechanic is exciting and really pushed me to explore and find new items. I even played a bit in the ruins when looking for copper ore and really liked using the whip to break items and fight monsters. Only bottleneck was finding enough resin to make more torches.
The UI is easy to navigate and pretty helpful. The inventory is a good size and the crafting windows including info about where to find ingredients is great! I like how easy it was to insert items into machines from out of my inventory. Also like how easy it is to scroll through tools to figure out if I can interact with an object.
BUG: Wasn't able to explore much of town due to reoccurring game crashes whenever I approached the center of Town. I was able to reach Town Hall if I entered the town screen, turned around and went back to the farm screen, and then loaded the town again and went straight to Town Hall. I was able to go to other areas in Town when I did this, but the game would always crash whenever I went back towards the center of Town.
I had zero problems with crashes anywhere on my farm including the Ruin and Caves, around the Town Outskirts, or in the Forest area.
There were a few things I think could use some improvements or clarification.
1. The Map
- The map in its current state is not very useful. It doesn't show you exactly where you are so it's very easy to get lost. A minimap might be useful as well.
2. Combat
- I did not try to fight the spiders (left the mine as soon as I saw one lol) since I had seen a content creator get insta-killed several times in a row, losing a ton of materials. I encountered a ghost myself and tried to use the whip on it but it had no effect. It didn't kill me but does cause you to drop items if it makes contact with you. Is there a way to kill the ghost, or do we just have to avoid it? Are there a lot of creatures that are immune to the whip?
If there's going to be combat it would be nice to know how much health we have, be able to defend ourselves (protective armor perhaps), and not get one shot by a monster.
3. Storage
- I did not see a schematic we could buy in the shop to make any kind of storage box/chest.
Will there be one when the game launches?
If I'm going to be dealing with monsters that can kill me and losing items upon death, I want to be able to empty my bag inventory before going into caves or temples.
Overall, I'm still interested in the game despite not liking how the combat works or losing items upon death mechanic.
I did not run into any bugs, nor did my game crash.
That said, I do feel like having a different type of map to help navigate the area more easily would be a great addition. I sometimes found myself getting lost, and while more time in the game might help with that, I still think a better map would improve the experience.
In the caves, when encountering spiders, I feel like I should be able to return and pick up my items after dying, or at least have a better chance to defend myself if I'm at risk of losing everything after being killed.
Other than that, we're very excited about the game's release, and we can't wait to play more!
The graphics of the game were nice to look at, it was fun to run through the area, explore and find hidden corners + treasure chests. Treasure chests made a “bad” impression, because the drops from them looked as if you would get them through activities in the game anyway. It lacked the thrill of “WOW, what great thing have I just found?”
A statement from a developer said “We had to scrap some ideas to avoid starting in EA mode”. Is further development planned after the release of the game or is it a completed game development?
I really like the idea as a concept that it tries to cater to different play styles but I'm not sure if it actually works too well in execution with how the game currently is. It feels very unfair and unbalanced with the spiders showing up so quickly, being able to one shot you, and being so difficult to runaway from. Something needs to be done, either the timer needs to be longer, they get stunned for a longer time, maybe give the player a shield and sword to defend themselves, or just have the player drop the items rather than lose them so they have a chance to retrieve what was lost.
As it was me and my boyfriend were getting really frustrated because we both needed copper for our jobs, but didn't immediately understand how the cave works (which side note maybe a sign in front of the cave explaining it would also be helpful) so we both got taken out by spiders a few times and lost all the easy to get to resources just inside the mine, causing us to have to go farther in to get what we need, which made it harder to get anything within the 4 minute timeframe, and we'd still get caught by spiders because the stun time on them is so low
Compared to everything else in the game that i experienced it just seems unnecessarily brutal. I understand not wanting to remove the idea as a whole from the game, but i do think it needs balancing
I didn't find any bugs that I was aware of, game ran smoothly.
I have a few ideas/ things that might be lacking:
-Better explanation/ background to who you are and how you got there before the tutorial starts, and maybe a bit of exposition on the island as well (although I appreciate that you learn it from characters and the little stone guy in the farm)
-Map needs a bit of improvement, as its a little confusing to work out where you are and where you're going with such a wide zoomed out perspective. Maybe a mini map or something?
-Quest design could be improved. For instance, I was given a quest to make torches to explore a cave, but never shown the location of the cave or told to enter it. I actually continued the questline quite far before realising I needed more copper and had to look for the mine/cave (idk what it is because I never found it). I think adding more information to each quest box would be beneficial. Also, perhaps icons on the map showing where important locations are?
-Maybe I missed it, but was there a RUN button? I felt the character's speed was quite slow. This was the only thing that really affected the game-play at all.
-Could do with a clearer goal. When you first start you are shoved straight into the tutorial with little idea what you're doing. In fact, it felt like a completely different game when I was done learning the initial ropes! But the quests are vague and maybe a plan or goal to aim for would help draw players in. Something like a big mystery or a character backstory. (Ignore this if that's what the loud rumbling was for at the end)
-Maybe a first-person perspective in the future? Although it's fine as it is.
-I didn't get too far before the rumbling (lol) but are there more ways to interact with the villagers? The loading screen did say to check if they needed help so I guess there are quests? Either way it would be a shame for such cute npcs to be relegated to just selling you stuff.
-Add more professions in the future? I tried Archeologist and really enjoyed it, but I like that there are options for people with different tastes.
All that to say: Awesome game, please keep working on it!
