So I just followed the tortoise at Rail Nomad for a long time and it died. Did I do something wrong?

And did you carefully search the area in which he died for hidden loot?

Yep, that I did. The loot was the reward?

The loot was hidden about 100 meters from where the tortoise died. That's why I thought they weren't related. :)

That sounds pretty far away, was it good (better than average) loot?

There is a white dig site on the beach where he dies, in which is a randomly generated armor, weapon(bren and famas for me on two checks), a few ammo types, some junk, and a modest cash pile.

I found steel plate armor, sunglasses, cash and ammo. The tortoise died just before the bridge leading to (I haven't been there, but I think it does) No Man's Land. The loot was burried just off the road when facing in the direction of the bridge, with the Topekan people behind you.
