New Names

For those who have played the excellent fan translation, what are name differences you have found with this official translation? I don't like the new names, they aren't nearly as fun, but I'll get used to them.

Knightly is Knight
Courtney is Verity Gavèlle
Ray is Eddie Fender
Debeste is Eustace Winner

give it a few weeks after release and theyll be mods to restore the fan translation names and objection vocals probably

It's possible Capcom's translation team liked the new names too, but due to trademarking risks, decided they couldn't use them.

I think their choice of new names might grow on me! We'll see.

Yeah I bet they wouldn't want to get too close to them just for fear of the appearance of copying a fan project. I get why they did it, just a bummer that the names aren't quite as fun.

Maybe John Marsh will get a better name!

Definitely a bit of a bummer as I quite liked the fan translation and names, they did an incredible job. Very keen to give this a try and compare though.

Unlike TGA, I really liked the fan names over the so far revealed official ones. But I'm sure someone will make a mod week 1.

literally all capcom had to do was to reach out to the fans who made the fan-translation project and ask them if they could use the names in the fanmade translation, which i don't see why the fans would've disagreed to.

instead we got absolute ♥♥♥♥ names. sebastian debeste >>>>>> "eustace" whateveritis, wtf?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to use the fan translation names, as they have to claim copyright and trademarks to this new game's content. While the fans would've agreed to it, the government would not.

It's not illegal if those who came up with the names gave the approval. Copyright can be transferred by the one who owns the copyright.

In fact there are examples of fan translations being used later in official releases, such as from the Trails series.

Fan translations are different than fan translated names of characters. Copyright transferral from the fan translation to Capcom would require legal documentation from all of the people that worked on the fan translation, which happens to be more than just one guy in this case.

It's either that or just make some names like they always have with their internal team that already does this... Tell me what's easier
