Very much hoping you can avoid the aggro of a full Steam uninstall/reinstall. Good luck!
Exit TS 2014 and STEAM
navigate to the Railworks\Content folder and delete or rename "playerprofiles.bin" file
Restart Steam and TS2014
You beat me by a few seconds, I was looking for the name of this file, and just found it. :)
Yeah, if you set a resolution that your monitor or GPU is incapable of, it apparently causes TS2015 to crash, and by deleting this file, you force it to reset to the normal resolution of the monitor-Gpu.
in STEAM folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps
You will see some files like appmanifest_24010.acf
make a backup of this file into another folder and delete the orginal one.
Steps
1) Exit from STEAM
2) copy C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\appmanifest_24010.acf
d:\SteamBackup\appmanifest_24010.acf
3) Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\appmanifest_24010.acf
4) Load STEAM
Steam will start download railworks files or you need to reinstall railworks
If you want to be sure also you can search steam community by appmanifest_24010.acf
As Growler says you do not uninstall staem at all
the first thing steam will do when you say install is "discovering exisiting files for Train Simulator 2015" any file that is present will not be downloaded thus not resetting the game. for that you need to uninstall the game first which is ridiculous if just deleting one file is the answer, if deleting that file is no solution you might as well just delete the game and reinstall it the normal way thus making sure steam doesn't screw your installation. the app manifest is nothing more than a simple text file with no settings for the game itself
oh and before I claim something I check it so I tried your methode, nothing was downloaded from steam besides a new app manifest
