[Solved] Monitor out of range
I have just bought, downloaded and installed TS2015 and when I start the game, my monitor just says "Out of range". I can hear the music in the background but I never reach a settings menu, where I can experiment with the settings.

I cannot seem to find any human-readable file with settings. I have tried the "Verify integrity of game cache", doesn't help.

I have the latest videodrivers. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64 and I have an older AMD HD 7700 GPU. I think it should be plenty for playing, but I wouldn't expect fantastic performance.

What should I do now?

Go to this location > C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks\Content then delete the file 'PlayerProfiles.bin' and see if that helps (it forces TS to start with default settings and then re-builds the file). If it don't help we'll have to try and think of something else.

Can you expand on that out of range error anymore? Does it say anything else? I'm wondering if its the graphics card causing the message rather that the actual TS prog.

EDIT: What resolution is your monitor set at?

- I have tried deleting the PlayerProfiles.bin file, but it doesn't seem to help me.
- I have just removed all DLC's and reinstalled without them, so they don't interfere somehow.

My screen resolution is 1680x1050 and my screen just goes blank with the "Out of range" text displayed. I very rarely get this message, but its usually because the active program tries to use a higher or a very odd resolution. So far my guess is that TS2015 is configured for 1920x1080 or 1920x1200.

Running LogMate I get the following entries while TS2015 is running:

[RunTimeError 19:56:45] Trace mdump.cpp : 422 = error handlers have been set

[Content 19:56:46] Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 448 = Blueprint set not found for: Cameras\EditCamera001.xml

When I shut down the game (Right clicking on the TS icon in the taskbar and select close application) I get the following entries:

As stated previously, I have tried to delete the PlaerProfiles.bin (yes its located at the folder you refer to), and after starting and shutting down TS2015, its created again. Nothing helped here, its the default settings that doesn't work.

The max resolution of my monitor *is* 1680x1050.

Ive had that error with an old monitor, but as it turned out it was the graphics card or driver for some reason. Monitor is supposed to be 1280x1024, but with the latest Catalyst driver and a HD6870 i can only use 1280x960, i am running it like that at moment (girlfriends comp), message comes up as monitor out of range if i try to use 1280x1024, thought monitor was on its way out, but i tried an even older Nvidia GT240 graphics card in computer and 1280x1024 was available again. So wondering if latest Catalyst driver has a problem?

I did what Glenn has wrote above to get HD6870/Train Sim back to default settings then changed it to 1280x960 res again, but same as you i could hear music but had no picture at 1280x1024.

Just for fun I changed my Windows resolution to both 1280x1024 and 1280x960. I still get the "Out of Range" message.

I have tried changing the refresh rate in Windows to 59Hz and it seems like my monitor doesn't like 59Hz - I get the "Out of Range" message again, this time without running the game. I remember having had this problem with other games in the past, other games which defaulted to 59Hz instead of 60Hz which is what my monitor supports.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks. Find the file 'config_fullscreen.xml' and RIGHT click on it. Select Edit from the list. See what these lines read>

<mGfxWidth>1024</mGfxWidth>
<mGfxHeight>768</mGfxHeight>

Are they the same as mine? I'm not sure if it will help tho' as I am not quite sure of the way that file works - those readings in my file bear no relationsip to my window settings (1600 x 1024 windowed). But if they are higher it might be worth changing them to see what happens. OR: MOVE it and the similar file 'config.xml' to the desktop and then try running TS. If it goes very wrong or simply no change, it's very easy to simply return both files to where they were.

EDIT: I just did that and when I ran TS it opened in such a small window that I couldn't do anything with it! So I closed it down and replaced just the config.xml file and it then opened as normal.

Hmm... I have looked for files like those two config files and now I actually have them. The resolution identical to yours and the refresh rate is 75Hz. I have changed the resolution and the refresh rate to match my monitor in both files (actually it didn't work changing the config_fullscreen.xml) and now it works!

What I think happens is, that my monitor reports supporting 75Hz (I don't know in which resolution that it supports it, but the specs actually says max refresh rate 75Hz). The game picks up 75Hz as being the maximum refresh rate supported but fail to verify that the monitor actually accept the configuration and following trying to fall back to another refresh rate.

Glad that it's working now - Happy days and safe driving!

Windows reports gf's monitor as 1600x1200 @75hz, no way will it do that, res or refresh lol. The problem i had of losing 1280x1024 res was due to latest Catalyst, went back to 14.4 and 1280x1024 is usable again, windows still reports same 1600x1200 though, could eee how it could cause problems.
