No contents in 'Standard' and 'Free roam'
Hi!

I bought TS2017 the other day and am a bit confused. I can see and select routes and locos in Quick Drive and Career, but the tabs Standard and Free roam are totally empty. No pictures or filter buttons. Nothing in the table to the right either.
I have tried clear cache, but still nothing.

What is going on here? :steamsad:

Modern routes created by DTG sold in the Steam Store generally do not come with any Standard or Free-Roam Scenarios. This has been the case for the last couple of years, since a change in policy at the time the game's developer rebranded from RSC to DTG. So modern routes (and these will include all the default ones included as the official TS2016 and TS2017 routes) only come with Career Scenarios. Hence that's why your Drive-Standard and Drive-Freeroam menus are empty i.e. you haven't got any to play yet.

The majority of the 'older' routes for the game (and there are many extremely good ones!) do come with plenty of Standard Scenarios, and most have a few Free-Roam scenarios as well. Again the majority of 3rd party developer routes come with generous numbers of Standard Scenarios.

So hope that reassures you, there's nothing wrong with your game. You just need to add some alternative route/loco DLC content (that contains these scenario types) to find something under these two game menus. All the best.

Aha! No reason to worry then. Thank you Growler.

A minor extension to what Growler said in his nice explanation.

Free Roam and Standard are the original, more simple game modes, although Free Roam offers a unique chance to do random switching. But the mode has its limitations, especially with current designs. (Donner Pass has 5 locos and quite a few wagon types, most modern routes include a single type of loco, maybe two or three. It would be awkward.)

That being said, you can find scenarios of all types, mostly standard, in the workshop. Therefore, you can think about these tabs as a hub to access those in an organised fashion. There is a separate tab for workshop scenarios, but it is just a raw list, sorted by timestamp of subscription, no filters, groups (and I like it that way, maybe sorting would be welcome).

You can always and very easily make your free roam or quick drive scenarios. As long as no other moving trains are involved, it's done in 5 minutes. For a free roam scenario: Go via building > scenario > Free Roam scenario > select a starting place and give it a name. With the little blue box with a yellow arrow on the left you can add all rolling stock you have. For example: you like a free roam scenario on the route Munchen to Garmisch with a UK Class 90 starting at Starnberg: Select Satrnberg as starting position and put your train there AND give it a driver ! (Very important to give it a driver icon, looks like the head with hat on the left upper) For Quick Drive scenarios: Go to the place you want to start , and unther "infrastructure" (that sign with the old signal) you find "Marker Player Spawn Point";: put it near the track and the arrow that comes with it ON the track where you want to start. Make sure the direction is right ! (it automatically points to North, change by shift and click on it). Then right click to not put another one and click on the bottom of the marker, and a window at right opens: type there your origin point (it doesn't have to be an existing place, type whatever you like (but this will appear as origin in the list of quick drives) Very important : select front/center/back of your train. This is important: At a terminal station put it near the end of the track and select back. If you put it before a signal at a terminal station and as front selected, a too long train crashes at once. Then open the 2D map and select with the green "+" button in a continious way all intermediate stations. (For Quick drives there are are no reversings allowed ! Junctions are fixed at start in a QD scenario. (unless manual junctions)
I hope this can help. Any question ? Just ask.. Greetings.

Wow, thank you guys! Plenty of possibilities, and a good crowd helping out when trying them, then.
Seems like I will have to buy a new computer next. My laptop is clearly not fit for this game. It's almost melting. :)
