Next time you have the game open, press the F4 key and see if the HUD appears...

Sounds as if you're looking at the F3 HUD- brought up by pressing F3 you'll not be surprised to learn. It shows you the route ahead, throttle and brake levels, your speed and speed limit etc. but doesn't have the sliders or buttons- useful if you tend to drive with the keyboard controls and want a less cluttered screen but still have the "dashboard". If this is the case as sbmarauderman says F4 will bring up the detailed HUD you are used to.

Briefly pressing F3 or F4 will toggle either HUD. With the HUD off you can display a lot of information (some of which doesn't appear in the HUD) by pressing F5. It's odd that the TS2021 manual doesn't seem to mention any of this but here's a link to the TS2016 manual which is much more forthcoming.

That link is to a file on your system. You could post it using Steam.

Part of my first post (#2) should have read "Briefly pressing F3 or F4 will toggle either HUD."

Have a look in TS main menu, Settings, Gameplay, Train Control and make sure it is set to "Expert" and not Simple.

Hope this helps.
