A couple of problems with catenary (again)
Hi everyone,
I am having 2 major problems when using the catenary tools in-game. Please note, these are the ones named UKCat masts or something along those lines, and the German equivelant, not the unrealistic ones from ages ago.

1) When I place the tool along any configuration of track, the first mast is placed, but the second is not. The third is placed again, but where the second should be, the wires stretch perpendicular to the track to some unknown point. It works fine from there. I have had this before but just assumed that it is a bug, which I am able to work around. I can provide a screenshot later if you wish. Is there a fix for this?

2) Whilst the 1 and 2 track tools work well and automatically place the wires at appropriate distances when clicked, if I try and use a different format, such as a 3 track gantry or 5 track cable span tool, the automatic distancing doesn't work, and it is only possible to manually guess the distances. Is there a way to make it so that all the wire types place the wires with the distancing tool?

It is quite hard to describe these problems, so if I am unclear I apoologise. If you need further details or screenshots, just let me know. Thanks :)

I have had similar issues to what you describe in item 1.

What I've been doing is keep going until everything is placed and then go back to the messed up one to manually clean it up. You should be able to select and delete the errant wires. Use the catenary tool and click around where the missing gantry mast ought to have been. Left click to it get it placed, but then immediately right click to deselect it. That should leave you a gantry with no wires. You can select the gantry and slide it up or down along the track to tweak the position if you need to. Next go into the lofts pallet and select the miscellaneous list. In there should be the wire loft for your catenary type. Select it. If you go to the gantry and look where the wires should connect to it, you should see a small circle around that point. When you mouse over it, the circle turns yellow and when you click on it, it will turn red. Then go to the next gantry down and click on the corresponding circle. The wires should link between the two points in the circles. Do this on the other side of the replaced gantry as many times as necessary to complete all the wires links.

I presume it is just straight lengths of track with no switches (points) or crossover tracks? If you have any track going between them, that can also mess up using the tool. The fix is the same, but a little more complicated by the fact you technically have three tracks - the two parallel and the one linking between them.

If you don't understand, let me know and I can post some screen shots tomorrow.

I'm less familiar with what you described in item 2.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate your help and advice. Unfortunately the catenary tools are not the most user friendly ;)
Thanks again.
