Train simulator joystick controls
Hello

I've been wondering if its possible to use engine propulsion levers found on most flight sticks such as saitek x 5 to control train break and engine power ?

This would result in more immersive driving, less annoying controls (maybe its just me but its bloody annoying to set throttle at specific %, it always goes a bit too little or too much.) . . and more importantly stick is more "generaly useful" and 5x cheaper than "dedicated" train controls

Hi Yoshikuni! It's not possible to use a flight throttle stick but it is possibe to use a raildriver or a xbox controller. xbox CONTROLLERS are about £20.00 and a raildriver is about £150.00

Yeah but pad doesnt have the precision and if i push it to 40%, the stick doesnt physicaly stay on that position. Saitek X5 has two throttle leavers and it costs ~ £37 here. . . and like i said its more "multi purpose". Thanks for answering anyway.

Rail devs, add support for it.

It is possible to use any joystick recognised by windows as a game controller to work in TS2015. There is freeware available on a UK train sim site or you can use XPADDER or Pinnacle Game studios software. One caveat there are NO AXES in TS 29015 they are all key presses even the throttles and brakes. The joystick will have NO more precision than a xbox 360 controller or the keyboard.

no axes? So how does the physical raildriver controller work then? also as digital keypress?

The same way that the keyboard works - you advance the throttle with the "A" key and not an AXIS or slider. ALL TS2015 controls are tied to the keyboard. The mouse cam move the throttle etc too but it is NOT an axis but a series of keystrokes one after another. I could never get the axes as in FSX to work on a saitek X52 joystick but everything worked fine.

Where exactly you can get this soft, to allow any windows joystick to be used in TS2015

Thanks, just an idea? would't be the world nicer, if the authors could include support for HID into game?

Already three years have passed, and the developers have not added support for gaming devices. Shame on them!

Its unbelievable that TS2018 doesn't come with native Raildriver support. Hell, you cannot even custom map the keys something that could be done in games from 20 years ago.

It's also unbelievable that someone revives a nearly 3 year old thread with a useless comment, and someone else feels compelled to take it serious.

And then ofcourse, there is this:

the comment is not useless at all, support for joysticks and axes has not been introduced.

..it is, why to bother to develop something which does have standard in PC gaming and whole windows interface (HID), when you can throw work to players, when most of them wants only to play instead developing (copying inside) own scripts, interfaces, software adapters etc..,
really usefull link to me, thanks, game is perfect, my bad (or is it?..)

After Dayjay wrote his TSConductor[tsconductor.dayjay.de], a TCP-Server for TS, I have written a TCP-Client. Which converts inputs from a joystick into TCP-messages. It's named TS-Fireman[rail-sim.de]. We are the engineers / engine drivers. You need both programs. The server at TSConductor must first be started. The "Loopback Interface 127.0.0.1" is the best choice for a single PC setup. This IP and Port you have to put in the settings.ini of TS-Fireman. You can start TS-Fireman to get to the Local App folder. There is a button. The only things there need be edited, are the ini-files of TS-Fireman. Mostly done by TS-Fireman itself. The axes of the joystick you must establish at the settings.ini. Which axis is for which lever. For adding a new locomotive you must start a session (career, quick drive etc.) in TS. If it is loaded switch to TS-Fireman to add the loco.

The graphic user interface and the settings are already in English.

The joystick axes are not transferred to keystrokes. They are sent via TSConductor as a TCP-command. If you are setting the "Controller ID" and 8 "Steps" at the throttle in TS-Fireman for an American locomotive then be sent each step with a value of 12.5% to TS. (Idle = 0%, 1 = 12.5%, 2 = 25%, .... Run at 8 =100%). For a German BR101 set the "Steps" to 100 and you have the control over every single percent of the throttle. The same for the brakes. The reverser has default 2 steps and only the "Controller ID" must be set.

I can add an English description if it is necessary. But it is self-explaining.

For me programming is only a hobby, I'm not a pro. I'm a craftsman.
