Class 395 DSD Key
Has it ever dawned on the mothballs, used as brains at DTG that not all laptops have a number pad enter key on them. Which muppet thought that through?? You do realise there a laptops on the market that do not use number pads, like this win7 machine I'm on tonight, which is less than 3 yrs old.

You wonder why your having problems, who is in charge of these things? So basically if your not using a laptop with a number pad on it. You can't use the 395, 801 or the 365 in expert mode as you have no way of reseting the DSD... *Shakes Head, and waits for DTG to close!!*

Just think of all those letter's between A - Z you could have used that would have been universal. How old are the people who are building this game??? Or when you wake up in the morning do you think you are an oinon!!!

Uh.. Function key? Laptops aren't made for games? /facepalm

Edit: My sarcasm is based on your sarcasm calling DTG, essentially stupid, when they do not program for laptops. (They've stated certain things about laptops are not supported).

So what we're saying is, that they actually dont want to support certain types of laptop's thus lowering the customer base, thus lowering turnover, lowering potential profitbility.

Alienware laptops are built for gaming and some of their laptops don't have number pads either.
Jackson Jan 9, 2015 @ 7:15pm
Andy: I guess? I do know they aren't the only ones. Many games say specifically they do not support laptop video cards for instance. They're just not the same as desktops.
Typhomat Jan 9, 2015 @ 7:18pm
DTG does not support some laptops on a basis of internal hardware, not keyboards. They state that some laptop hardware might not be supported compared to their desktop counterparts. Essentially if a desktop graphics card or CPU is supported, it does not mean the laptop equivelent is as well. Keyboards are different. Personally, I think we should be able to map our own keyboards (never really looked into it, could already exist). My recommendation, by a keyboard witha numpad, or buy a numpad.

I stayed up forseveral hours, well actually to 3am looking into this, as stated bt tjh876, they don't support certain laptops, on the basis of chipsets etc, that I do understand. It's the fact, what appear to be the basic building blocks for building a solid foundation for a good/great product appear to have been missed, or ignored from pretty much day one. I know DTG are aware of this, due to the digging I did last night. I also know, there's not much at the moment they can do about it. So for the time being, I very much doubt anything will change. So it will remain hit or miss when you purchase the TS set up and/or add on's. As for fixing the bug's etc. They're going to struggle at the moment, as they don't have the manpower.

I feel at the moment the problems, will just continue to compound, ie get worse before they get better. Shame as I enjoy the product, there are parts of it that are fantastic, hours of great game play, then it all un-ravels with a silly fault, that could have been avoided by thinking things through more, or more testing being done before launching a new add on into the market place. (See above) Bottom line is all the problems are airising, as the infastructure around the product is not correct. Until that is resolved, business wise, I personally doubt anything will change for the positive in the near future.

This is why your all getting upset about patches, updates ,etc. Not enough cooks for the broth. Hence why things are not forth coming on a lot of the time frame stated, and customers are getting very frustrated about small problems, that snowball from online converation's, into huge issues.

My comments, when opening this thread are a classic example. We as customers get frustrated by the lack of support, that supplier at the moment, from what I have viewed, is not in place to give.

@andy: You could always trade in you underpowered, unsupported laptop for a desktop OR: add to your laptop with a desktop and have best of both worlds. Out of curiosity, did you (or anyone else?) take the trouble to check out the minimum required specs for TS before buying? If you did then you would be aware that laptops are not supported before buying which would make your original post rather selfish and arrogant towards DTG.

Bit like buying a car where the seller clearly states that it doesn't come with any wheels, then having the cheek to complain to the seller that it doesn't have any wheels and therefore can't be driven.

Just my own opinion of course. I'm sure that a lot of people are going to shout me down now!

The laptop in question is most deffo not under powered, or un-supported. I do DLC for a living I need a fast machine / machine's. Yes the the specs where checked, when I purchased the orginal box set back in 2012. The win 7 machine actually runs the game faster than the windows 8.1 (though that machine is more for video editing) @glennives60 as for your opinion by all means air them, it helps move things forward, into hopefully making the game better long term, you will not get me shouting you down for posting a view or airing your thoughts. I went and checked several questions last night after comments from Jackkend76 and edawg109, that had been in my head for a while, so by all means people, please keep the comments flowing.

Have to agree with you on this one glennives60.... In fact many gaming companies do not support their products on laptops since the term can range from Chromebooks to Alienware custom machines and many uninformed consumers can't tell the difference. Not saying that is the case here, but just in general. And to help the OP, I have seen USB numpad extensions that will give a dedicated numpad to machines that don't have one.

Buy a keyboard and conntect it to your laptop. Problem solved. Don't tyr to tell DTG how they must do their business and which market assumptions they make.

I know my grand-kids have just got some cheapo tablet things and thier mum got them some plug in keyboards for them - cost about £1 each at the poundstore or something like that (keyboards not tablets!)

I am thinking of buying a similar set-up for myself, but I don't plan to be playing any games on it. (for use with webcam and astronomical software only)

Key assignments are in the Railworks/Assets/RSC/Kent High Speed/Input Mappers folder in the Class395.bin file. If you feel confident you could always change this to use a key not already in use to cancel the DSD.

I just wanted to reiterate one thing for the OP, all laptops (that I have seen, and that's a lot) have a numpad built in. Just use the function key. Typically down near the windows key with blue lettering. Next look for small blue lettering on the side of the keys (not the top) and you should see the numbers, hope this helps if you can't/don't want to buy a number pad.

IT Crowd is so damn accurate with all thiese "do you tried to turn it off and on?" jokes. Trying function keys and full scale plugged in keyboard should be first thing before making posts on forum.

I also thouhght most laptops have a numlock key and using that allows access on the keyboard to num pad keys? http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/the-hidden-numeric-keypad-on-your-laptop.html
