Converting zip files for the game
Hello, I recently downloaded a few patches from a third party for a route in the game and I need help converting the zip files into rwp. files so I can install them in the game using Utilies.

Thanks in advance!

I do not think you nee to do that. Try to open the zip file and the trainsimulator folder. Probably the zip will contain a directory assets. If so, copy the file to the TS directory and overwrite existing files (maybe you should make a backup). In most cases the zip will contain installation instructions as well in a pdf file or readme.txt file.

The procedure you intend to follow is very unusual.

I tried that and it didn't work. I kinda feel bad I forgot how I managed to make a rwp. file out of a zip file because I remember doing that before.

Hi pasictarik10. Is it that you need help un-compressing (unzipping) one of your downloads that is a zip file containing the .rwp file? If so an excellent freeware tool for doing so is 7-zip. You can download it here[www.7-zip.org]. Just install it on your machine, then from that point on whenever you need to extract a .zip file, simply highlight the file, right click on your mouse, and from the pop-up menu choose 7-zip and then select "Extract here" or "Extract to a folder" gives the name of the file for new folder. You'll then find in the location you choose to unzip the file, all the individual files including the .rwp file you need. Hope that's what you were after in the way of help. Good luck getting your patches working! All the best. [/quote]

Thanks man, I'll try that and get back to you. The main problem is that I see the rwp. file in the zip file but I'm unable to save it somewhere.

I normally use WinRAR and drag and drop the rwp to my desktop.

I would too but my free trial with WinRAR has expired.

7-zip is fortunately free, and I think you'll perhaps find it easier to use. It's also great for extracting the games .ap files. :)

Windows has the capability to ZIP and un-ZIP files without the need for any aditional software.
Right-click the .zip file and select "Extract All..."

I couldn't get 7-zip to work but it's ok because I remembered what I did before to find the rwp file. I know have the trains I wanted in the game, I just need to learn how to drive them.
You said you have the .rwp files in the zip file. You have to go to utilities and select the .rwp file to install the contents of the file into the game. I usually make .rwp files to backup my own content I created. .rwp is a convenient way of backing up the game files.

About 7-zip. It is the best I used so far. Far better than RAR. I wish people must stop to use RAR, because I feel RAR is inferior against 7-zip. The interface might be better, but who can argue agains the .7z compression ratio. It's the best I've seen. If everone could compress their contents in .7z than .zip or .rar

7Zip? So true,it out does the rest and way faster to. RAR is old but useful for some things most folks don't use. So yep 7zip is best and FREE and windows will unzip also.
