Two great subway routes that are partially underground and partially on ground level are the U1, the U2 and the U11 lines of the Nüremberg U-Bahn and the U6 line of the Munich U-Bahn. I would be great if you could considered those two, Martin.

"Except for the lines U5 and U6, all lines operate completely below ground".

Well, the Metropolitan line runs in and out of tunnels between Aldgate to Baker Street. After this point it is above ground all the way to Amersham/Chesham/Watford/Uxbridge. I'm sure even the Central line has a good section above ground after White City (Westbound) and Stratford (Eastbound). If i am correct even the Piccadilly line has a big chunk above ground just after Barons Court up until just before Hatton Cross (going towards the airport) and Uxbridge.

You have a few lines that are quite literally in the open air. Would be nice to get one or two of the lines in the game. I guess its just a case of which ones.
The Metropolitan Line and/or Central Line would both be great fun. I totally second that... personally i would want the Central Line, because i have used it many times.

A LU route/s needs to happen especially now in real life there's a lot of improving going on to trains and stations in the underground and it would great as it's known worldwide which will make it sell.
im from sydney our underground is probably to short but would say melbournes underground is worth a look.

A great discussion everyone. Thank you for all of your comments.

We have thought about creating an underground route in the past and it is still not off the table for consideration. The question we have always asked ourselves is how interesting would it be for the player? I can see here that there are already some mixed opinions on the idea.

Can you think of any sections of the London underground, or any other one for that matter, which would make for great gameplay? I would love to hear your suggestions.

Sorry to resurrect an old post but I just want to let you know that I would love to have a London Underground route. Preferably a Northern Line route cira. 1980's. I think the Northern Line would be a good choice with a mix of overground and deep line underground. the Northern Line has a lot of heritage behind it and it would be great to see someone do it justice.

With all due respect to Growler's comments - I don't think its accurate to suggest there are other successful underground simulators out there. The best known is BVE but its not exactly cutting edge graphics. And to say the World of Subways effort covers a big chunk of the London Tube is a bit of an exaggeration. Its the Circle Line which is not even proper underground.

Is this still on a long wish list or has this come up in any recent developer discussions as a possibility in the near future?

I would personally hope your new next generation Unreal Engine based simulator is going to have better underground / dark tunnel support so that a wealth of DLC could be released based on Metro lines from all over the world. If this is the case then I would be happy to wait for the new engine.

Just please please take Deep Tunnel Metro's into consideration for your new next-gen engine. Nobody else has really delivered a quality sophisticated simulation of the London Underground and I think you have an opportunity here.

+1 from me, especially after products like the Frankfurt u bahn proved we can have reasonable underground layouts in TS.

WOS proved that having totally underground lines can get very repetitive and boring, with no exterior cam and many tunnel textures being obvious copy n paste affairs. Their follow up release based in New York was much better with a combination of above ground as well as subway making it much more enjoyable.

My vote would be for the District line, a nice mix of surface and underground line, with some nice AI opportunities in the open at areas like Wimbledon where it runs alongside the mainline.

I completely agree that the northern line would be a good route for this what with there trains just being updated and that it is a nice big line.
As a substitute you could get the Isle of Wight route. Not much underground but good old LT vintage stock.

The District line between Wimbledon to Edgware Rd would get my money.

BTW I've spend some of my life on the Northern Line during rush hour. They wouldn't allow animals to endure those conditions.

It also has a great Overground Terminus and Depot at Morden and plenty of other overground stations north of Hampstead and East Finchley.

Yes, I have it. I love driving it on the South London Network. Can get some nice speed out of it too. :-)

Yeah Seconded
I guess we will see Euston - Birmingham at some point by DTG. the line includes great chunks of London Overground and the bakerloo line running towards Paddington. That would really be a great DLC.

What would be great would be if they got the plans for HS2 and incorporated that into it before it was even completed. Would be a great attraction for new players to TS i bet.
There is a freeware version of the HS2 available. Go check UKTS - mind many individual downloads from all over the place to piece together. Personally I didn't find it much fun, with so much of the route either in tunnels or on perfectly straight flyovers. Exactly the same reason DTG have been extremely reluctant to consider doing the Eurostar chunnel route. On the face of it, seems appealing to players; but when confronted with the actual reality of driving such a route, perhaps a different matter.
