Google maps overlay not working in TS2015
I know this is the wrong sub forum but a few users have posted in help and advice and have had no response and its rather annoying. Set up google maps overlay and when you press ctrl + G all that will happen is the blue loading circle will appear for a second and nothing will happen.

Dear AddictiveBiscuit, With the greatest of respect because I know you are currently badly affected by the non working Google Maps overlay just like myself. But I'm not quite sure why you've brought up the issue again just a single day after we get a comment from DTG on the problem, on the very forum thread you were trying to link to (working link to this thread is below):

My direct dialogue with Martin (DTG) yesterday is quoted further below in this post. It is
definitely really frustrating that we're currently stuck with this fault, but DTG have made it clear they are now aware of the problem. That it is a bug, and hopefully it will be fixed shortly in their forthcoming first TS2015 patch which addresses other known problems with the Google Maps overlay feature. If it isn't fixed, then we are agreed their will be further investigations to correct it. I'm not sure what more we could reasonably expect in the mean-time, if that is an honest response (which I have no reason to believe otherwise) from DTG. So finger's crossed that this upsetting problem won't continue too much longer. It's far from ideal I know (I desperately need this feature again; it's stopping my route development work), but unfortunately we just need to be patient for now.

It is hoped DTG's general patach (soon to be released) to improve speed and reliability of the Google Maps feature may also cure the problem for those of us that currently have no access to maps full-stop. It has been agreed that if this fails to solve the problem, DTG wil then investigate this problem further with our help. I trust this info is helpful to everyone here. The system has always been a bit hit and miss because it is based on a third party service which is not the easiest to set up. We have tried to simplify the process but we are limited by the API it is based on. The patch will certainly improve stability and speed things up. If it does not fix the issue for everyone we will happily investigate the issue further to see what other improvements we can make. That may require help from the community in the form of some more questions. Can I suggest that we get this fix out, see if that improves the situation and then take it from there?

Yes that's most perfectly reasonable, how could I not agree to that! I just find it odd that for some players myself included, that the Maps worked perfectly for us in TS2014, and then no longer do in TS2015. Same hardware, same API and GoogleMaps connection. Really weird!

May I just politely ask that a formal note/record be made (and perhaps the key forum thread on this issue be kept) that a signficant minority of players are having their Google Maps not work at all just now. Fingers crossed the patch you mention will also be a cure for those with this broken map function. However, If not and it does require further investigations with our help (the players affected), then at least we have a useful starting point. Thank you if you can do that for me. Cheers, and have a good weekend. Growler [/quote]

Right thanks for the info Growler, I posted this hoping that DTG Martin would notice it. I did not know that we had a response from DTG Martin.

I just found this out myself! GRR! I had to totally uninstall this simulator and re-install it after issues with the locomotives sound configurations. I did try to install third party software from Armstrong Powerhouse of some Sound pack I had bought of them a few years back and it caused a confliction to the locomotives such as the class 47, the engine was switched off and I tried to start it up and it kept spluttering. So as they are already running by default, I decided to completely delete Train Simulator 2015 from my hard drive, then reinstalled it so it is clean. Now I have the Google Maps Underlay error, where you cannot see the imagery when you press Ctrl + G. I even changed my API key and you just cannot copy and paste it, like it says in the instructions. Ctrl+C and paste to the game by pressing Ctrl+V. It is useless in TS2015, so annoying. I had written down the API key code I was given and typed it into the window where it should be and still nothing! The company DTG need to update their website first, before releasing the Train Simulator 2015 update. It's no good explaining to us how to install Google Maps Overlay in TS2014, is it really? It doesn't work in Train Simulator 2015!

Dear Mark. It's interesting (I appreciate a complete pain/nightmare your end) that like myself you had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of TS2015 after the upgrade just to get the game to 'work'. Like yourself I have many 3rd party assets for the game, and so the complete clean re-install literally took a couple of days and had me close to tears with desperation. This was after a previous two whole days of tyring to follow the Steam/DTG advice to make the inital upgrade work which completely failed, whatever I tried. Hence like you, the forced clean install of TS2015 from scratch. I wonder whether there's any connection here between our clean install of the game (rather just upgrade from TS2014 to TS2015) and the absolute complete failure of the Google Maps overlay feature.

Like myself and AddictiveBiscuit are you getting (after pressing Ctrl plus G) the Google Maps blue spinning circles briefly appearing in the World Editor on the terrain landscape, before disappearing and then the maps failing to show? It would be interesting to know if your experience is exactly the same; the more common patterns with the problem we can establish the better. I also changed my Google API key but like yourself it made no difference, still no Google Maps. And you're right the having to type the whole long API code into the game's settings box, rather than simply copy and paste as was the case in TS2014 is another pretty poor backward step in the game.

But yes the whole failure of the Google Maps (I understand they display painfully slowly and are very unreliable even for those players they still "work" for) feature is pretty hopeless. This TS2014 to TS2015 upgrade hs just been one big unwanted disaster from the very start!

Yes that is absolutely correct. I pressed the Ctrl+G and a split second of blue circles and -nothing. We'll have to wait and see what DTG has to offer. Well at least we can still drive the trains.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem. Train Simulator 2015 (upgrade from TS2014), Windows 7 64bit.

This must be a hit or miss bug because I've been able to use the overlay. But, my issue with it is it's still very slow or unresponsive and almost impossible to use at this point.
vitas Feb 6, 2015 @ 12:43pm
Now... i works! Here's what I did: 1. I cleaned the cache. 2. I started the game in a window (previously full screen). 3. In the editor by pressing CTRL-G began to appear blue circles but no map. 4. In the game settings changed approximation of the maximum to the minimum. 5. In the editor was away overlay up. 5. WORKS! In the game settings experimented further with the settings to get the right amount of detail maps. I noticed that it is worth first experiment with a preview of the normal map (not aerial photograph).

I eventually had support from DTG and they told me to send them my key code and then before I knew it, I was back in and enjoyed it ever since. Thanks to all advice and help. All is good. Hope everything is OK with you Growler?
vitas Feb 11, 2015 @ 12:48am
Its OK, thx for your interest. DTG also helped.

All i keep getting is the google logo and sorry no imagery here

It does work, I had to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall TS 2015, it took 19 hrs to download the content, on starting up google maps would not work, just the blue circle, after a couple of days trying out different things I went in to google account and generated a new API key for my account, the old one will stay active for a month. The new one is active right away. Started up TS 2015 and hand typed the new API key in, copy and paste will not work. I am now up and running re doing the Southampton UK area. Hope other rail fans find this useful.

I was hoping to start building my local track but I have this same issue. Have tried everything... different API keys (Server & Browser) re-installed (twice), run in windowed mode, different quality levels, nothing works, just blue circles, can anyone suggest anything else? Win & Ultimate 64 bit
Terry Tibbs Apr 5, 2015 @ 6:46am
I have tried everything above.

I get the spinning blue circles, but they keep spinning, I have left it for hours thinking it was trying to load.

Any thoughts?
