My direct dialogue with Martin (DTG) yesterday is quoted further below in this post. It is
definitely really frustrating that we're currently stuck with this fault, but DTG have made it clear they are now aware of the problem. That it is a bug, and hopefully it will be fixed shortly in their forthcoming first TS2015 patch which addresses other known problems with the Google Maps overlay feature. If it isn't fixed, then we are agreed their will be further investigations to correct it. I'm not sure what more we could reasonably expect in the mean-time, if that is an honest response (which I have no reason to believe otherwise) from DTG. So finger's crossed that this upsetting problem won't continue too much longer. It's far from ideal I know (I desperately need this feature again; it's stopping my route development work), but unfortunately we just need to be patient for now.
Dear Mark. It's interesting (I appreciate a complete pain/nightmare your end) that like myself you had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of TS2015 after the upgrade just to get the game to 'work'. Like yourself I have many 3rd party assets for the game, and so the complete clean re-install literally took a couple of days and had me close to tears with desperation. This was after a previous two whole days of tyring to follow the Steam/DTG advice to make the inital upgrade work which completely failed, whatever I tried. Hence like you, the forced clean install of TS2015 from scratch. I wonder whether there's any connection here between our clean install of the game (rather just upgrade from TS2014 to TS2015) and the absolute complete failure of the Google Maps overlay feature.
Like myself and AddictiveBiscuit are you getting (after pressing Ctrl plus G) the Google Maps blue spinning circles briefly appearing in the World Editor on the terrain landscape, before disappearing and then the maps failing to show? It would be interesting to know if your experience is exactly the same; the more common patterns with the problem we can establish the better. I also changed my Google API key but like yourself it made no difference, still no Google Maps. And you're right the having to type the whole long API code into the game's settings box, rather than simply copy and paste as was the case in TS2014 is another pretty poor backward step in the game.
But yes the whole failure of the Google Maps (I understand they display painfully slowly and are very unreliable even for those players they still "work" for) feature is pretty hopeless. This TS2014 to TS2015 upgrade hs just been one big unwanted disaster from the very start!
I get the spinning blue circles, but they keep spinning, I have left it for hours thinking it was trying to load.
Any thoughts?
