Where's the N&W Class J #611 for Railworks?
Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone on here knows if the N&W Class J #611 is being made for use in Train Simulator 2016? And if so, by whom?

From what I've heard, the museum holding her, the Virginia Museum of Transportation has her trademarked, so it may take a while (or never happen) before we see her on the simulator. :(. Which is depressing, cause she's a real beauty, and I'd love to have her on the simulator.

The approach that suggests itself is the one used by the Durango Railroad Historical Society in their narrow-gauge route (see http://www.drhs315.org/blog/drhs-shop/ds-train-sim) where G-TraX made the route, converted some MSTS rolling stock to run on it, and DRHS sells it to support the society. An excellent route, by the way, with a lot of Britkits assets you can add to it. A bargain at $15.00.

DTG and licenses = troubles . Yhey had the BNSF debacle, I doubt they are currently actively pursuing new licenses, at least not for TS, the new UE4 version might be another story but also there I sus[pect they first rehash the routes and engines they also have in TS

Prob better off asking on http://railworksamerica.com/ might be some freeware enthusiast who is working on it, its certainly an iconic train and would look great in TS.

As these societies that own these historic locomotives are hungry for donations to maintain and operate them one would think that licensing them would be a good source of income. Now that Norfolk Southern, who owns the track rights, has killed their steam program so many of the revenue generating excursions that were scheduled are now in doubt. Also the PTC rules call for increased monitoring and maintenance of all rolling stock and locomotives adding additional cost of operation.

Oh well, I guess the simple answer is 'no' then. To the OP, go get an A4.

This confuses me. Could someone can explain, isn't a museum claiming tradmark rights on a locomotive they own the same as a me claiming tradmark rights on my car? How about producing any other N&W J Class?

If you have a pontiac firebird (for example) and bought that trademark the answer is yes, in any other case it is no. Trademarks, brandnames, patents etc all are registered for a certain period. After that you have to renew. trademarks can also be sold to a highest bidder, same as publishing right, copyright etc (for example Michael jackson who bought the rights to the Beatles music)

This is an individual item and therefore could be legally defined as a single entity or 'brand' to which they own the rights to.

There you go then, no model makers going to touch it.

That's a very good point. If the N&W Class J #611 is trademarked, why can't someone model the N&W Class J #600 - #610? I do know that there were slight differences between this batch and the second batch (611-613). Most notably, the first few had spoked wheels on the pilot truck.

A second idea to consider, would be to model one of the Class K-2a's. There were a number of Baldwin Class K-2a 4-8-2 Mountain's that received semi-streamling that made them look like the Class J's. If you do a search for images online (N&W K-2a), or go to ( http://www.3rdrail.com/images/NW-K2-brochuresm.pdf ), you'll see what I'm talking about. This would give us a nice streamlined locomotive that resembles the Class J without worrying about the trademark since it's NOT actually a Class J.

You sir, are a genius. now the next question is will they give us matching passenger cars or screw it up like they did the GS-4?
