Is there a way to change the radio talk in cab?
I know this was mentioned just recently and was given the idea to try to change the current cab_radio.dav files so I can have different radio talk while in cab drving along. The current supplied radio chatter is annoying as some already may know and I created my own compiled radio chatter file and tried replacing the ones installed with the ones I made and it did not work. I tried both in .wav and .dav and the files do not work and yes I even updated the XML file when I tried the .wav and still did not work. Pretty much there will be no radio in cab but it will work if I restore the original files. I really want to have the radio chatter cause it does bring more realism to the experience when in cab but want to add my custom ones since they are longer and are not repeatitive. Any help will will be greatly appreiated and if you would like a copy of the radio chatter I have I will be more than happy to send it to you. In either .dav or .wav format.

Regards

I delete cab_radio.dav in every loco and run Scanner Rail[play.google.com] program on my Android phone during ride:-) Easy to do and newer the same thing to listen to.

if you don't have an android phone you can also use the site railroadradio.net

There's a guide on Steam (under "Guides") called "Silencing Dan Hernandez" that goes into this in detail.

Railroadradio.net is really entertaining! Long periods of silence punctuated by static, but then you hear interesting and cryptic conversations, plus a lot of oddness such as exaggerated sighing into the radio by what I took to be a stressed-out train engineer.

My only kind of irritating problem is my lack of geographical knowledge and my lack of knowledge of those broadcast locations. I don't know what route goes with what channel.
I would love to drive Cajon or Donner with the correct channels but I have no clue how to figure that out (which agrevates me highly I must admit)

Hm, I'll take a look at it. The interface was a scosh confusing but I eventually found the "local" route to listen to. Maybe I can figure out the Cajon / Donner situations too. (They are labeled with very local, almost idiomatic names so referring to an atlas might not help.)

That would be highly appreciated if you could figure that out, or closest too :D. I want to use it in my scenario "tapings"

A browse through led me to some possibly useful channels!

Eastern Donner Pass - Reno, Truckee
http://www.railroadradio.net/content/view/216/262/

Western Donner Pass and Sacramento
http://www.railroadradio.net/content/view/38/230/

This might be the one for Cajon Pass (not verified)
http://www.railroadradio.net/content/view/142/186/

These seem appropriate for the Surfliner route LA to San Diego

I just managed to use some PC links given by both by Limmin and Mavadelo , but also tried TuneInRadio based on android. Most of these hubs are silent or with very small radio activity (at this hour at least).
Windows 8 has a free app version of TuneInRadio and you may search for "railroadradio" and you will get a list of places including main hubs for BNSF, UP and CSX.

Great idea this one!

Right now Railroad Radio UP/BNSF Central Valley has a lot of radio activity
Limmin Jun 23, 2015 @ 8:13pm
Yeah, it really seems to vary. In the Seattle area, there are (in my neighborhood) about ~20 trains per day. So you might get 3 or 4 in one hour, then a few hours of silence...

Some nights I hear 2 or 3 within an hour. They're active day and night.

I wrote a guide on muting the radio some time ago: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=380273971

Limmin, I'll be adding your links to my guide, they're pretty good replacements for the standard chatter.

Actually the full domain http://www.railroadradio.net/ would be interesting to include, as there are much more links for other routes in their menu.

okay, so this kind of advanced. Some of the freight trains have Dan Hernandez embedded, and I've had great success swapping ol' Foreman Dan with my own recorded radio chatter. But some of the trains do not have radio chatter embedded in them, and I would like to find out how to do that. I've tried creating xml's with the audio embedded but no such luck. Is there a guide somewhere on how to embed radio traffic in trains?
