Adding Routes and Trains
Sorry to start so negatively, but this has to be the most poorly structured and documented sim I've ever had the misfortune to purchase. I've used MS Flight Sim for more than 15 years and boy this is infinitely more complex than that. Having said that I have a few questions to ask regarding installations of downloads:

First, are there any COMPREHENSIVE instructions on the use of Package Manager. Try as i might I can't get the thing to work?

Second, is there a standard file structure/tree for installing addon files? As far as I can see, downloaded routes have 3 basic folders; Assets, Content and Manuals. It seems to be that all have different instalation methods. Package Manager would seem to be useless with the folders.

The, a lot of my scenarios (downloaded) start with no trans, stations, foliage, signals, etc., etc, but merely a basic track view.

1. I personaly have always found it very inchative. If you can say what exact problems you are having then it may be possible to offer a little more advice here, you may alwo want to see: http://railworks.wikia.com/wiki/Package_Manager

2. Yes there is a standered structure, assets go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks\Assets\Name_of_Author (routes or something). Routes go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks\Content\Routes, scenarios are installed inside the route file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks\Content\Routes\Route_ID\Scenarios usualy though you install through the package manager.

3. This is always the case, if you dont own the route that the scenario was built for you will see no train, if you dont own the trees, no tress ect. Be sure to check the dexcription and make sure you own all the DLC (and possibly other freewhere) needed before downloading.

Being a FSX person as well - have found the railworks to be way more intuitive than FSX - .rwp and .rpk are just archives - you can open them with 7Zip, Winzip or any other decent arche program - the file structire is straight forward - just move the folders you find in the archive to the correct location on your hard drive - you don't need the Utilities program at all - the nice thing about the Utilites program - it makes it easy to uninstall the DLC Route ect.

but in order to be able to uninstall by utilities.exe it needs to be installed by it. If you just extract the files to the correct location (which is indeed very well possible) it won't register in utilities. Or I have been doing something wrong all this time

Yes - that is what I meant and put in my last sentence as why you might want to use the Utilities.exe -- Thanks for clarifying so there wouldn't be any confusion

Thank you for all the replies. Taking a few points at a time: I've tried Package Manager in the way it's described. I've tried to instal rwp files but when I click instal nothing happens. ONCE, I got a route added to the left hand pane but when I started the sim it didn't appear.

As for the folder structure I did exactly that (or so I thought). I'll re-visit that and follow your directions.

As for all the other points, thanks to you all. I'll work through them.

So far as the scenery is concerned I'll try to upload a screenshot later.

OK, Skifans. I downloaded (free) The Riviera Line and London High Speed Line (Faversham). They came wth the three folders as you described. I installed them as you said (but I'd done that before). I'll try to upload a screenshot to show you. It will be titled Riviera Line 2.

London - Faversham and the riviera line? coming as asset/content/manual folders? I highly, HIGHLY doubt that are legal versions and you can get into real trouble if you ask questions about pirated software on this forum. Both mentioned routes are RSC/DTG products and as such not available as "free download" (which also might be the reason they don't work as you want because who knows what they did and did not include in your "free version"

As mavadelo has said, these routes are not free. I wont and hopefuly other forum members will not help you install pirate software. The main (but by no means only) place for free routes is http://uktrainsim.com and the workshop.

these are JT routes? lol I assumed RSC/DTG since they reside inside the RSC folder. JT doesn't have it's own "location" in TS?

and no, I won't assist in installing pirate content either. therefor removed my explanation I posted earlier just in case I am in luck and he forggets how.

Where are you getting JT from? JT's folder is JustTrains and the two routes in question are from RSC and are nothing to do with JT.

And yer man will probably, quite rightly, get banned from steam.

Hate it when you try and help someone and they turn out to be using pirated software, hope the software has a good virus or malware hiding it....
allancrowley Jun 13, 2015 @ 11:07pm
Ooops. Not done intentionally. I wouldn't deliberately ask anyone to be involved with that. Will delete said scenarios forthwith. Sorry guys.
LeadCatcher Jun 14, 2015 @ 6:09am
Might not have been intentional - but would hope you do have a strong anti malware regiment in place since it sounds like you are downloading from other than official or vetted sites. It is so easy to develop Trojans and the sort that lie in wait for the unsuspecting.
