Sad news UKTrainsim to close
Matts post here DTG Forums [forums.dovetailgames.com]

A long time stalwart of the TSC community is being permanently shutdown at some stage in the not too distant future.

Other sites host the freeware packs, obviously everything else will disappear into the digital blackhole.

Hopefully Matt or Peter open up the downloads section for us leechers!

It's a sad day indeed. Another possibility could be to move the files on it to a new site-UKTS reborn, so to speak.

Matt has said he won't do it, so I rather doubt he'll let others do it.

What this should hammer home into any content creator is the importance of using as few external assets as possible.

Indeed. I just think of the dozens of third party routes that have myriad requirements from UKTS, that will either have to be redone, or the UKTS assets will need to be available elsewhere to avoid newcomers having routes with lots of missing assets.

Which is not down to UKTS to do but the asset creator unfortunately. the freeware packs for UKTS are freely available elsewhere as well

Luckily, devs like Golden Age Developments are helping to fill vital gaps in that field.

Filling what vital gaps? Their stuff is a perfect example of the sin I'm talking about - everything they make has tons of requirements, including a lot of UKTS stuff.

I was referring to their scenery and livery packs. A lot of the UKTS stuff needed comes bundled either with the route or the freeware packs (WofE, for instance) and even if the routes can be a little heavy on payware, most of it is stuff the bulk of community already owns.
