NS ES44AC yet another physics buggy one
NS Coal District has been one of my latest DLC acquisitions. As those that have purchased it know, it has a nicely rendered ES44AC and pretty good sounds.
However......again....a physics buggy diesel.

The loco is too powerfull as it accelerates and decelarates (no brakes) faster than should be.
But some times you set the brakes to 0% and will not release the self lap state, not allowing an initial movement (this happens only a few times so you can live with this).
Keeping a low speed is difficult due to the more power built on it. I guess that the traction curves must be somewhat wrong. It doesn´t feel at all as other ES44AC in TS2015.

But braking is another story.
If you run a QD scenario in a flat terrain with 2x NS E44AC hauling 80 empty gondolas running at 40 mph, you will be able to stop the train in 0.15 miles applying only 60% brakes (a self lap position).
Imposible in the real world not even with 1% uphill grade.
One of these gondolas weight 27 metric tons (in the game). Then you are stopping 2160 tons and nearly a mile of train running at 40mph, with two locos in just 0.15 miles.
The braking pressure takes time to equalize even in the easiest level of braking (4 available).

I don´t know when was that DLC (NS Coal District) released, but it seems there is no third parties mod for it.

A world where everybody is happy is a good world.

Was made in November, 2014. Yeah I don't really care about the unrealistic brakes. Im fine.

The average freight train is about 1 to 1¼ miles in length (90 to 120 rail cars). When it's moving at 55 miles an hour, it can take a mile or more to stop after the locomotive engineer fully applies the "emergency" brake. An 8-car passenger train moving at 80 miles an hour needs about a mile to stop.

Then it is a young one. It has about the same age of the CSX SD80MAC DLC. I had to imagine it because of the brakes difficulty selection feature.

My quarrel with all ES44s in this game is that they are woefully incomplete. The display panels are a disgrace: Some, by DTG, don't even show the throttle notch. Others like the one cited above and the ones in Canadian Mountain route, do show show the throttle and brake pressures,
but none show any of the sub screens or the odometer that lets the driver know when the end of his train passes a speed sign, etc.
There is no EOT device simulated so there is no BP pressure at the tail end, and no indication that the last car has started to move.
Of the sceens that a real ES44 shows at the bottom, two particularly important ones are train statistics (length, weight, total number of axels, Hp/Ton. etc., and the Distributed Power groups and the fence that allows tail groups to run at a different throttle setting from the head groups.
To see a realistically simulated ES44. and realistic operation of long freights, one needs to turn to Run8.
Since heavy, long-haul freight is BNSF's bread & butter, it may be part of the reason that they would rather not see their name in the game.

Take a look to some of the videos related with the diesel chaining start up (to rear diesels and helpers) in the Run8 simulator and you will see the movie of what would you like in those displays.
