Quick drive. No.
Free roam. Yes. 4 I think.
Scenarios. Yes. 12 standard in total (no career), 6 for the advanced (ADV) version of loco and the same 6 for the standard (STD) version. Look in Drive, standard and scroll down the right side list until you find the route.
Your buddy may have also bought the other J 94 add-on (can't remember the correct title) which is QD compatible and has some scenarios for the Woodhead Route.
You can find the manual for the J 94 Maerdy @ C:/progfiles86/Steam/Steamapps/Common/Railworks/Manuals/EN(english).
Hope this helps.
Hi Ken, what is it you're specifically concerned about? I've never really been troubled by any game affecting glitches with it; have always found it a fun route! :)
I was just going to say I feel under terrible pressure now! ;) lol No worries, if you like the old steamers and are prepared for a challenge or two you'll love it! However, you might hate me briefly after trying the 30 wagon challenge up the hill, it's a beast!!
Yeah you might possibly have been thinking off Hatchett Hill quarry, that DLC is sadly a broken disaster. Anway have fun with the fine loco & route you are getting!
BTW, do I NEED Horseshoe Curve for the K4 to work, or can I buy the K4 and get the Curve later?
The route has been broken for 4 years, and continued to be sold the whole time. The community have even provided (a couple of years ago) a fix to DTG to sort out the problems, but they've just 'sat on it' and done nothing to put things right. Really sad! All these customers (myself included) being conned. Thing is you don't know (and never imagine) a route will be very broken when you buy it. There were also no reviews at the time when I bought it a couple of years back. I hope my review, written a while back now; at least saves a few people from unecessary disppointment.
Welll all the scenarios that come witht the loco pack are for HSC, so if you want to run those it is a must. But the engine is Quick Drive compatible, so should work nicely with quite a few US routes. I've just tried with Marias Pass, and it worked fine. If you like the PRR diesels (such as the Baldwin Centipede or RF-16 Shark-Nose) then HSC really is a great route that you're sure to enjoy. But yep, you in theory can buy your PRR K4 steamer first, and later get the route to take advantage of the scenarios that come with the loco add-on. It might first though, be worth checking the Steam Workshop and see whether there are any decent scenarios for the loco on routes you already have. All the best.
I am also hoping to ge the centipede, the shark, and the RS, and MAYBE the 44 tonner. I have been to HSC, and I have always wanted to take a train around it. But, I am waiting for them to be on sale. From what I have heard, the K4 is up there in quality with the Smokebox FEF and Consolidation. (Also want those! 844 was the first steam locomotive I ever saw in steam. I hope they come out with a Milwaukee Road 261 someday, as she was the second steamer I ever saw.
The racing sounds like good fun!
The K4 is a nice loco, great exterior 3d modelling; but IMHO it's certainly not in the class of either Smokebox's FEF-3 or Connie. These two are just in a league of their own, so much more sophisticated and involved for driving. That's if you enjoy driving very advanced steamers. The Centipede is certainly a magnificant beast, very under-rated in my opinion; I suspect the relatively expensive price has something to do with that. But catch it in a sale for £12 (about 18 bucks) and you won't regret it. It's become one of my all time favourites over the year's; and thats as a Brit that loves my classic old BR diesels! I've yet to get the Sharknose but look forward to hopefully grabbing it in the next sale. The PRR 44 tonner is good fun for switching. Sure sounds like you'd enjoy the HSC, it has a huge yard for switching scenarios; and a monster long hill for challenging any loco hauling a heavy freight load. Hope that's a little help. Right just off to Google your Milwaukee Road 261; I'm not great on my US locos but bit by bit getting there. :)
