This being the case you can still run it on W 10 with DX 12, Yes or no ?

Provided DirectX 9 libraries are present in the system (and these are usually installed automatically upon first launch), yes, you can.

yes, if you get directx errors it will be a simple matter of reinstalling DX9.0C (found in the install folder inside the railworks folder) but Steam already should have done so for you at first launch.

<--- senses some gamers that use DX11 and DX12 games switching facecolor ranging from pale white to upsetred

Don't worry. Up to DX9 DirectX always had been backward compatible. With the introduction of DX10 a new "architecture" was implemented breaking this BWC. The installation of DX10 removed some files that are highly needed for games running on 9 and before. The reinstallation of 9.0c simply returns those files to you (or gives you the files for systems that never had 9) but WILL NOT BREAK YOUR CURRENT VERSION. your DX version will stay the same as it currently is

I am still lost here. I want to get a new computer running W 10 which will have DX 12. Now I know I am being a bit thick here ( maybe ) but what else do I have to do just to run TS. I don't know if DX is backwards compatible or will it all just fit into place. Thanks for your help so far.

I guess my previous post gies you the answer. You have to do nothing unless errors pop up related to DX

Thanks Mav, and sorry but your answer arrived just before my last question. But I am happy now. All the best.

As Mavadelo wrote, DirectX was designed to be backwards compatible.

Don't worry.

Last DirectX 9 native system was Windows XP...

No worry, :) I have seen so many people being confused about this and tbh Microsoft is not really known for their elaborate explenations when they change things around (the "new tutorial screens" in W8 being a bright example)

You will not need to install Directx 9. Directx is and always has been backward compatible. It'll work fine :)

uhm no Jack, DX10 , 11 or 12 is not backward compatible with 9, that is why 9 is still installed after the first install of the game :)
