Careful to Bonn
I am having a lot of trouble with the "Careful to Bonn" scenario, as emergency brake kept kicking in shortly after I departed the depot.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong even though I've checked the BR146 manual in case I needed to press acknowledgement button etc, but no avail. From what I can see, the emergency brake kicks in and the 1000 Hz warning light was flashing on the dashboard.

Any help & advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

On PZB, from my understanding, when you first start out the 85 and 70 light will begin to alternate putting you in restricted mode - if the next signal is not red - you can "Free" yourself from the restricted mode by pressing the 'End" key

- Upon hitting the 1000 HZ you have to acknowledge the alarm with "PGDN" then slow to 85 KPH with in 29 seconds after acknowledging the alarm - the 1000hz light will remain on till you have traveled 700 meters from the 1000Hz magnet - then will go off - you are still in restircted speed - but if the next signal is clear - you can free yourself from the restriction again by pressing the "End" key.

If the signal isn't clear - continue to slow since you will hit the 500hz magnet and the 500Hz light will illuminate - you now have only 153 meteres to slow to 45 KPH - this restriction will last for 250 meters after the magnet.

if you every pass a 2000Hz magnet when energized )red signal) you will always get an emergency brake situation.

All the above speeds are for a type O (high speed passenger) Type M (Fast Freights) and Type U (Heavy Freights) have different speed restrictions.

Thanks very much LeadCatcher, I'll give that a go now.

Hi I was having the same problem as you.
I had read through the instructions about PZB and what should be pressed where, however what I didnt realise is that even though the main signal may be showing a clear aspect, if there is a repeater signal on the same post and it is indicating anything other than two green, then you have to "acknowledge" as you pass the signal by pressing Page Down - as you are acknowledging the fact that you are aware the next signal may be red or impose a speed reduction (and you dont get long to do so or the emergency brakes come on - about 2.5 secs I think). There is also no audible alarm to advise this so if you pass anything showing a yellow repeater, you must "acknowledge" (not release as I was doing as I though a yellow signal counts as a clear!) as you pass the signal or your emergency brakes are applied. Took me a few attempts to realise this.

Also (I dont want to spoil which signals are red after you leave KOLN if you havnt got that far so im not going to tell you exactly where the red light(s) are), but ensure you are aware of the speed restrictions under PZB when approaching a RED signal, as I got hit with another emergency brake application for passing a 500Hz magnet located a fair bit before a red signal above 65kph (as line speed was 70!), then again for not reducing my speed to 45kph after I passed the magnet which was quite difficult to see under the snow! - this I reasise was my fault though as I had not fully read and understood the restrictions imposed on approching a red signal that then clears before you get to it).

So I have made it to the first stop (KOLN WEST) but just thought I would put my bit on here as to how I got past the first signal without an emergency brake application.

I am having a problem disabling SIFA though - when I Press Shift + Num Enter, I get the box telling me SIFA is disabled, but then immediately get another box saying SIFA is enabled again so I cant turn the SIFA off which is doing my nut in every 30 seconds! Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there a way of disabling SIFA other than using Shift + Num Enter?

I think it is a bad BUG with the locomotive/route. I too get it, and that means you have to do the SIFA thing every 30 seconds along the route. A major pain in the butt. This will happen with oter scenarios on this route, and with this loco. The route and scenarios are fun, but this is an unforgivable bug. Without appearing to bad-mouth DTG, this is another example of extremely poor quality control, and shoddy worksmanship. Why we continue to support them is beyond me, but there I was shopping both today and yesterday for more of their stuff. For sure if we continue to support them, the quality is likely not to improve. Fortunately I did not give them more money - YET!

I have had the koln to koblenz since it came out but just decided to start trying to get to know how the pzb works. Im giving up to be honest as I keep getting emergency brake application for no apparant reason (im hitting the SIFA every 30 seconds and keeping within the speed limits and acnowleding signals as required. I left KOLN West, green signal ahead, hit the sifa button after 30 seconds to reset it, passed the still green signal (with no distant on the same post so it was just a clear main signal) about 20kph below the line speed limit, then BAM! Emergency brake setting. Tried to reload scenario from my save point at KOLN West, and the throttle decides its not going to work so i have to start again from the start of the scenario!

I encountered only one PZB bug (500Hz magnet at red signal which causes emergency brakes if you pass it faster than 40km/h, while that should be 65km/h for O trains) on the Carefull to Bonn scenario, which I reported in the feedback forum.

It is true you can't disable SIFA, but maybe that's because they want difficult career scenario's to be somewhat difficult? (I don't mind either way, but it would be nice if they would communicate their choice better)

@grantos_3000 are you sure you weren't in restricted mode? (1000Hz => max 45km/h and 500Hz => max 25km/h) You will be set to restricted mode if you drive slower than 10km/h for a couple of seconds when a magnet light is active. The restricted mode that will engage is the same as the magnet shown in the locomotive. (So if you had 1000Hz active and stop or drive very slow, 1000Hz restrictive monitoring will be activated, same for 500Hz)

It will show in the upper right corner why the emergency brakes triggered, do you remember what it said?

I am struggling with the peccadilloes of German signalling as well. I have found this video helpful:

Yep I realised after my rant that I was in restricted mode as the previous signal was red but cleared as I got to it so I didnt actually stop for it. I acknowledged the distant cautionary as I passed the signal, then stopped at Koln West. When I left Koln West, I thought I was in a 85kph restriction as previous distant signal showed yellow. What I failed to compute is that the next signal was red before I stopped, but whilst I was stopped it cleared to green. I didnt realise I had already passed the protection magnet for this signal in the process of stopping as it is located about halfway along the station, so when i left Koln, I was under a 45kph restriction (as when I passed the magnet the signal at that time was still red). Restarted scenario and have just completed it with full marks (only took me about 3 hours to do a 35min scenario!!!).

I got used to the SIFA thing after a while too - even though it usually wants acknowledging just as your trying to respond to a signal or make sure your speed is right before you pass a signal etc!

yes thanks already watched before my original rant! Have realised my mistake now and correctly completed the scenario.
