Fizz.

I bought straight into 2016 a few months ago and have since bought keys for the 2013, 14 and 15 and each of them deposited/installed their content into the my 2016 version with no problem. They acted as DLC's and work fine :steamhappy:

EDIT. In fact. Look at the DLC's on the store page and most of them were made for earlier versions.

Everything from day one will work, you may notice a few features missing, like the rain effects may not appear on older stock windows but other than that and the lights looking a bit worse, all will be fine. I transferred some older stock and routes from Railworks 2 ( pre TS2012) into my Train Simulator and it all works fine.

Youve not installed Railworks yet then Axe, mind you youve probably bought everything that was in the old version of Railworks by now lol (pre TS2012 version)

Hi Budge - Ah sorry - not sure if you are asking if I have bought the 2012 version then the answer is no as I coudn't find it anywhere. Are you telling me the 2012 version was the last year to be called Railworks, before being called Trainsim?

Still figuring stuff out here LOL :steamhappy:

If I am correct, would 'Railworks' add useable content to the latest Trainsim I own?

I have, and still use, the original F7 DLC from Cesar Pach (Lord Mannu) which dates back to the first edition of Railworks. So far as I know, everything ever made still works in TS2016. This will eventually change with the new version, whatever DTG decides to call it, as this kind of backwards compatibility ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ development. But with all the stock I have (2,257 items), I probably won't switch; too much won't be replaceable.

Railworks, the game was called Railworks before it became TS2012, the game dir on your hard drive is still called Railworks today

You can still buy Railworks Ultimate for $11, get a steam code and download file, but you only use the steam code to activate it, dont use the download file. 8 routes including the 3 fictional routes, Seebergbahn, Castle Rock and Hedborough North (original routes not the Steam Workshop ones) different route nums with different scenarios.

Thanks Budge. I wasn't particulary clear on when the name-change had taken place. I'll now look out for the Railworks 2012 Steam key (I guess)

Still learning - much appreciated.

Railworks has basically the same in it as TS2012 -

http://www.fspilotshop.com/railworks-ultimate-train-simulator-challenger-download-p-3998.html

Most of the routes are called by there old names, but will install as there latest names and versions

Various Versions over the years-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_Simulator_(Dovetail_Games)

Railworks Ultimate is probably RW with also the old IHH Challenger included, as there is no mention of the TestTrak in FSPilot site description.

They were: "Railworks", "Railworks 2", "Railworks 3: TS2012"

It would add for example BNSF ES44AC & SD40-2. "Tornado edition" would additionally add A1 Tornado. I don't know what edition of TS2013 you have, but if you didn't have ECML or Cajon Pass with it, it would add them, too.

As said, if you check the C drive or wherever you installed TS, you will find the .exe is still called railworks.exe

You also will find the Utilities which is still used by freeware sites to install the routes/trains in convenient .rwp files.

If you want to make a backup of a route you created, you can use this Utilities.exe to create a .rwp file for backup and use it later if something happened.

TS2016 have a long history behind its back, all started from 2007-2008 Rail Simulator.

Rail Simulator was originally sold through EA (evil arts, lol), when former RailSimulator.com (DTG) buyed the rights to the game and thus futher developed it to RailWorks. I got the boxed version of RailWorks and got it through a discount by sending my valid Rail Simlulator code!

This steam account was first created when RailWorks came out, you can check my profile and see its almost over 6 years! If it wasn't for RailWorks, I wouldn't even know Steam existed! :steamhappy: :train1::wagon::wagon:

As the years goes, RailWorks was upgraded plentiful times, RailWorks 2, RailWorks 3 (TS2012), TS2013, TSxx, and till this day. I even got Phorum Peninsula, created for RailWorks 2 and it still works this day, a little finiky, but still works!

So that download would add some routes and locos to Ts12. I can't quite figure what I would get, sorry?

pavig Dec 27, 2015 @ 4:11pm
TS2013 is the earliest fully Steam based version, so everything 2013 onwards will work without issue. Much 2012 and before content was migrated to 2013. Earlier content can possibly be installed using the train simulator utilities package manager, but no guarantees. Updated versions of several earlier routes can be found published by dovetail on the workshop.

No it isnt pavig, you need a steam account for the link i gave to Railworks Ultimate above, i installed it my self and all works fine. Most of the stuff in railworks is still available today so its obviously been updated. You also cant run a lot of scenarios with the later routes that were put in WS. I still have lots of scenarios on the original Seebergbahn, Castle Rock and Hedborough North
