Here we go again. If I go to the train station in the UK, how much will it cost me to buy tickets to all destinations in one combined purchase. And who could afford that? If I go into McDonald's, how much will it cost to buy everything on the menu? How much does it cost to buy every game available on the internet?

Its a interesting exercise. Its above 10,000 USD to buy the entire TSC game. I will sit and add all 727 offerings manually one day.

We actually examined the possibility of a sleeper car to Chicago from where I live from the deep south and it came out to about a thousand dollars. The changing trains for the east coast will be about another thousand. Takes about two days and change depending on sandpatch.

Sleeper to the west coast depending on which of the lines you pick will cost more than that round trip. Essentially a land cruise.

As far as the contents of McDonalds consider a freezer about 15 by 20 or so, filled. Its going to be about 60,000 dollars in inventory give or take delivered by 18 wheeler from a special secured facility west of Oklahoma City. The custom meat orders to there from the Meat Triangle Plants int he US Western States will be approaching 100,000 dollars in value before they are processed into frozen patties etc the McD's way.

As far as buying the internet? Forget it. If you had such riches you could buy OUT all of the corporations and so on that own the physical assets and data centers of the Internet and control the ICANN Registeries DNS etc. But you will not acquire the Military Side or the Telecommunications side of the Internet. It will function without your sayso.

My favorite waste of time exercise is adding up the US Market, wall street and then the Chicago Commodities. What it will take to buy the entire thing and its assets in real time lock stock and barrel. Including the laser linked hot backup processing center in Jersey and a few other similar facilities.

Working from there into nosebleed areas. If you bought the US Real Estate Market lock stock and barrel and owned it all yourself you are into the realm of about 40Trillion. That does not include the CRE market which is suffering quite badly and would at todays rates be in the realm of 20T. Notational to market value would be twice that.

If you purchased all of the 401ks, annuities and so on and owned it all yourself you will need approximately 50T cash.

If you wanted to buy America outright you are going to need approximately 200T. And even then you wont own it outright. Interest on her debts run about 1T over 40 days currently. You will need about 8T annually to run it.

To Purchase UK would be a minor annoyance. The Navy is about 20 ships, two mini carriers etc. The rest is scrap value. The buildings is not a problem including the royal family. Parliament and the net zero will be a big headache and a larger problem to buy outright. But it is what it is.

Got more money than sense. Actually, got very little sense, if any! Even if you were rich enough - and stupid enough - to buy EVERYTHING, it would take 2 lifetimes to even try it all, let alone sit and play every single scenario. Utterly brainless springs to mind. But then most, if not all, of people that repeat this stupid topic ad infinitum are brainless!

I structured all 727 items on TSC DLC by discount first big to small then retail prices after.

I made it to about 6000 dollars by calculator before arthritis set in and I have not gotten out of the 50% discounted item range about half way down. So its going to be about a 12000 dollar paid more or less 1000 to DTG and associated retailers for the entire set of 727 DLC bought.

And these are at sale prices. Most of it half. So possibly 16 to 20K dollars to buy at full retail.

I can remember not too long ago where 110 dollars out of the box for a complete video game plus updates for as long the game is supported officially was a bit much out of the box retail.

Now in this steam DLC era you can rake in or spend thousands upon thousands for a single video game.

Take FSX for example. That was about 120 dollars out of box in 5 DVD set full online as of 2012 or so roughly. Now the entire FSX game is nickel and dimed offered for sale here on steam for 2024 in excess of 10,000 US Dollars for the entire game for everything down to individual trees in the game world.

I would not be complaining. I have been a lifelong train hobby person and have had train stuff in three gauges from childhood prewar on through to today. You are estimated at about 100,000 spent in toy trains overall in my lifetime so far.

Its been sold off. Theres one engine order from China due in the spring at a cool 400 dollars for a DCC Sound equipped model that will run on the corner shelf. Everything else is digital form on the computer now. So 20,000 on trains aint nothing.

The kicker is that the 400 US Dollars converts to approximately 3000 Chinese Yaun. Which is a disgusting fortune to them to be sure.

In order to define a life, you need to consider how to have a live. You are born. Damn it. You get told what not to do for 18 years and finally become of age to actually have a life but no money to do it with. That you have to go get.

The USA's Economy is debt driven a racket essentially. We drive America when we go into the store to buy ♥♥♥♥ we dont need. Its hysterical.

I lived a life as a trucker. And as a human it was a powerful life. Ive learned to sail, fly, operate railroad engines for fees paid and lessons in many things learned. Money? HA.

Debt? ZERO. Whatever comes in every month is cash. How I eat it will decide how much more I will have next month in cash.

The electric bill is just a number to mark off against Jan to pay due bills automatically If its too annoying I just send them a thousand dollars and worry about more electric bills next year. I dont have to worry about rationing or live in a cold house during winter. In short I dont give a ♥♥♥♥.

Something breaks on the truck I go pay someone to fix it or get the part and put it in under the shadetree myself. I keep a early 90's non computer vehicle specifically for that reason.

Everything else being a racket and a waste its easier to define what is a life for yourself.

I have been raised around rich people as a child and the vibe family wide is essentially they dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about money. Its nothing to them. I recall in the 60's I picked up a 100 dollar Silver Certificate Bill and the father took me to the local bank and redeemed it in silver.

That silver today would be worth a couple hundred at 25 Spot. It did not do well. Now Gold on the other hand...

In those days 100 dollars runs about 800 dollars in todays money due to inflation etc.

In 1990's dollars its about 2.37 or so in buying power using todays money. And grows worse over time.

Have a credit card? 30% interest on pay that does not increase at all while all the rest of your basic costs increase every day slowly.

Thats why you dont carry debt. That way your life is yours. Not theirs.

Do you not understand idle curiosity? People sometimes wonder how much all the DLC would cost.

Anyway, last time I calculated the price of all TSC DLC was in June 2020. There has been plenty of new DLC released since then, and some withdrawn as well. Also, regional restrictions on BNSF content have been lifted since then. Pricing may have changed on some content, too.

From Australia, I can scrape a list of 658 DLC items. It comes to a total of A$15,859.49 at current prices (including discounts available at the moment). If I ignore discounts, it comes to A$15,863.84 (not much of a sale at the moment). Adjust for currency conversion, and add in the nine items not available in Australia if you like.

I have no idea what that's all about, so I'll practice the guitar or run a scenario on TSIM or something along those lines.

For clarity though, I've set the threshold of having a life slightly above being a troll and asking dumb stuff on internet forums.

The only thing that’s dumb here is the amount of effort you and other people put into insulting the OP and not answering the question. Why don’t you just ignore the thread if you aren’t interested in it?
englishkeymaster Dec 26, 2023 @ 5:57am
Just so we're clear, telling the OP I thought the question was dumb (it is) took absolutely no effort at all. You're making it sound like a task that require investment.

People who ask stupid questions get stupid answers. Especially those that don't search first. This isn't some 'englishkeymasterism' it's an actual something and it happens in the world. I don't think anything has actually be said against the OP as far as an insult goes.

Regarding ignoring the thread, all I can say is, tough? I refer back to the ask dumb questions peice.

has it occured to you, to ignore responses you don't like? It didn't did it :D you'll be delighted to know I'm not as hypocritical which is why I didn't read most of the post of x1heavy once it entered waffleland - now that was looking like effort. That said, I acknowledged it which I thought was about as polite as we could get, considering it didn't make a lot of sense (no offense intended, it just didn't).

For what it's worth, I never said I wasn't interested in the thread - I think the fact I replied lets the cat out of that particular bag, so no idea where you were coming from. I'm very interested in pointing out the obvious where appropriate.

If you being curious about something that you personally aren’t curious about is dumb, you’re very narrow-minded. At this point, you’ve probably put more effort into boasting about how you look down at people than I did writing a script to add up the total price of the DLC.
englishkeymaster Dec 26, 2023 @ 6:31am
What do you want, a present?

I don't care that you totalled up the DLC or wrote whatever script, the OP doesn't even own the game, if writing scripts to answer troll questions is what floats your boat then bully for you.

You seem to think I care what you think, I don't - I'm here to say what a stupid question, and perhaps point out you still seem to be responding to me despite the advice you've been trying to force down my throat about not responding.

Get your panties un-knotted. Or don't. I don't care.

I'm a free man so I'll put whatever effort into what I want. It took two seconds to write my original response, and a few more to identify your response as rubbish. So?

How is asking a question out of idle curiosity trolling? The OP hasn’t been rude or insulted anyone. You’re the one throwing insults around, saying people are being dumb or stupid because they’re curious about things you personally aren’t curious about. If anyone’s a troll here, it’s you.
englishkeymaster Dec 26, 2023 @ 6:55am
I didn't call anyone dumb or stupid? I did say it was a dumb question. I also did say hint that I didn't beleive they had a life (that's an opinion and it's one I hold). If you think I'm a troll I'm okay with it. Just balance with the fact that what the OP asked is the no1 troll question, and you're doing scripting to answer it, on the balance of that don't be offended if I fail to take your assessment too seriously, as I'm not sure you'd recognise a genuine troll if it tap-danced on your face.

Why don't you take your own advice? If my posts aren't to your taste then ignore (your recommendation). Unlike the typical troll-approach, I don't need your attention.

I repeat, I don't care what you think. And no, I don't expect you to accept that, but sometimes people have different views and mine is different. No I'm not going to hold back just because it doesn't go down well with you.
