Doncaster Works - in the line of fire
It seems impossible to complete this scenario in anything like the time allowed - anyone got any tips on how I can do it quicker?

If you disregard the scoring etc you will play the situation and it should be fine.

Some of the older content in the game has been broken for years in terms of ETA expectations and various things wrong with them.

I own that DLC and will take another look at it its been a long time.

I remember on Donner from Summit to Truckee is about 7 miles down. Once i let the train go to about 72ish or so and listened to the flange howl all the way down. Made it into Truckee Station on time.

The penalty scoring was like in the millions, however the career scenario was SUCCESS due to being on time.

After trying a few times, all I ever got for the 2 career scenarios was the "Green Tick" for completing and "0" points. The Standard ones are much better.

I played the Doncaster works this morning and its straight forward.

Once all engines are put into their assigned spots you park at the end of spot to finished scenario.

Boom a million plus penalty for being too slow on the job and (About a hour) and thats on top of the -10 in fuel penalty per gallon burned.

I think I used about 8 gallons exactly out of 500 on board and it reminded me of the mid 90's trucking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on fuel consumption. They used to financially penalize truckers for failing to add to the company profit by using too much fuel per time and also speed while failing to pay the drivers what they were worth. And so the quality of the industry declined.

I probably threw down 50 or more gallons in Roper Yard slamming 50 hoppers in 40 minutes. We had thousands on hand in gallons for that work. No nickel and diming there.

My attitude in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scenarios like this is why I dont worry too much about points. Its better that DTG got rid of that entirely.

Its too bad, the career scenarios themselves as far as jobs, task or assignments are pretty good.

I am half tempted to get loco with the british switcher and really kick those scrap engines around at 15 mph to and fro get it all done in 10 wild minutes.

You will find todays uploaded end of game screenshot in my profile.

Green ticks are ok. I dont worry about it.

What gets me on top of silly penalties is the failure of the software to even issue a tick on a completed scenario played straight through. Theres a number in the granger and also in SLC and a few other DLCs that wont issue ticks.

I wrote off the ticks and keep on trucking playing the scenarios for what they are instead of for the points.

It’s possible to completely avoid penalties for fuel use – you need to remember to use high gear for efficiency as much as possible, but use low gear for acceleration so you can spend as much time cruising in high gear as possible. But it’s completely impossible to avoid the timeliness penalty.

You are right.

In the beginning I was adding just enough power to safely move the deltics around without breaking stuff. (Imagine that... in a place made to break stuff...) Paid attention to the shifting of gears too so it will move those half million pounds or more of slugs without hurting itself.

My first -10 penalty later I thought wtf?

Then started doing what you said in the back of the carriage way track. 13 mph give or take with throttle off. Coast into the scrap line.

Had them bouncing over the diamonds too. Serve me right if they derailed.

The devils in the details I reckon. If you did not know it, he will get his devils cut out of you.

That implies lack of attention to detail in building the scenario by the devs who failed to warn about fuel penalties and associated hidden 30 minute task limit.

I should have just hooked all four batches of deltics and burn the switcher to stack them all in the scrap area in one go.
