Train Simulator Classic won't start after update
Hi,
I updated trainsim a couple of days ago and haven't been able to get it to load.
The banner pops up, then vanishes after a while, then after another delay, I can hear the sound of the game coming in (freight trucks marshalling etc.).
I followed a link to check that I have all the correct dependencies (v++ etc.) and installed them.
I've restarted multiple times, but the start screen isn't loading.
Does anyone know a fix please?
Cheers

@OP & everybody else: Try removing/renaming "playerprofiles.bin" inside the railworks\content folder. The game will build a new file on the next start of TSC.

Hope it helps. On my end it solved the issue 2/2 times. (1st was my laptop a couple months ago)

Same problem, what fix exactly?

Great, a step in the right direction. Back to 32bit, that works great. Only 64bit and 64bit DirectX 12 will not start. Thanks DTG, another milestone in customer harassment.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but the same problem remains.
I lodged a ticked with dovetail, but they only sent me a huge list of obscure things to try before getting back to them.
Why do we have to jump through so many hoops to install a game?

Follow this guide:

NOTE: Do not do a file verify after you do this, it will undo the changes and revert back to unplayable.

Thank you.

It looks as if this fix is a temporary work around, as I have to delete the .bin file each tiem.

I received a response from my ticket to dovetail games, and they said that my laptop didn't meet the minimum requirements.

My laptop worked fine prior to the update, but I guess dovetail increased the minimum specs with the updates.

Would have been nice if Dovetail warned me about this, as I wouldn't have updated otherwise.

I'll try and tone done the graphics and see if that helps.

Huh, that's weird, but yeah I didn't check that initially (I play TSC on 3 machines) but on my end it works fine when I launch it for the 2nd or 3rd time after renaming the file.

In my humble opinion, just ignore what DTG said, they don't have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Previously, I'd been removing the playerprofile.bin file, but I've also tried leaving it in place, but renaming it.

Unfortunately, this isn't a permanent fix for me, as the game just creates a new playerprofile.bin file and doesn't load on the 2nd attempt.

Thanks for the temporary work around anyway. At least I can access the game.

I live in hope for a permanent solution from DTG.

Wish me luck.

Cheers

Good luck! (No, there's absolutely no hope whatsoever, we're doomed! haha)

Possibly the file corruption only occurs in connection with certain DLCs, and I happened to select one that's intact during my rudimentary "testing".

FWIW yesterday I used the Yellowhead route and was able to re-launch TSC twice, without touching the playerprofiles file.

Glad you're back in the cab.

Further to my low spec survival story, I found an old trainsim 64.exe in a back up I had made. I switched out the 'updated .exe' with my old 64.exe (Nov'22) and it appears to be working fine. I've managed to reinstate my google maps and windowed running preference.
I'm very relieved I managed to find my back up.
Cheers.

I've managed to get TrainSim Classic running with the latest update, but had to reset Windows 10.
