Clearing the cache
I often see comments in TS Discussions to clear the cache. This is something I have never done. The reason I have not done so is that I assumed that clearing the cache would be something like clearing the recycle bin, that is getting rid of unwanted and no longer needed files. However when you go on to Clear Cache in TS2016 it says "Force a reset of installed DLC." This is not what I expected. I have learned over the years that if TS is running well at the present time, it is advisable not to do anything that you have not done before, because it is such a fragile game that anything can soon make it become almost unplayable.
Should I clear the cache, and what does the message "force a reset of installed DLC" mean?

Here is a nifty tool to use. Sometimes during game play things will freeze or issues will arise. Clearing the cache will clear and allow you to reload those files to run your scenario. This is also a benifit when using the route editor. Clearing the cache will not hurt anything. This will not delete any game content just the files loaded fofr what you are playing during the current session.

You should be going to Settings - Tools - Clear Cache. Be sure youre talking about doing it from the game, not from the Steam browser / console.

I clear mine almost every time I play and have never seen such a message, the only message I get is "a restart is required, restart now? Yes / No".

I clear my cache roughly after playing a Scenario and definately after creating a 'Scenario', whether it takes you days to compile your Scenario, I clear my cache after every session :)

I clear my cache before and after I do anything with TS. Nothing will be removed and nothing will be compromised. The time it takes is minimal compared to the trouble not doing it, can cause.

Just view it as sweeping the cobwebs and accumulated crap away TS leaves behind after use :-)

To the OP
"However when you go on to Clear Cache in TS2016 it says "Force a reset of installed DLC." This is not what I expected."
That should not happen - all that the ingame cache clearance does is to delete any "Blueprints.pak" file(s) but ONLY those in the ASSSETS folder. The "verify the game cache" is an entirely different matter and you access that via Steam and right click on the train simulator entry. That does revert all you files to thos contained on the master database.

From some of the comments on here it appears that I have some differences with my version of TS 2016, which just cannot be right. I shall now clarify what I do to reach the point where I would clear the cache:-
* Main menu.
* Click on SETTINGS.
* Click on TOOLS.
* I then get 4 options in boxes, one of which is CLEAR CACHE.
* I hover the cursor over CLEAR CACHE and I get the message above "Force a reset of installed DLC".
This is not what I want to do or expect from clearing the cache. I have not gone any further because of this message. Any further comments after this clarification?

My TS is currently not working so I can't look, but it does sound right to me. However I never read the Force reset message. I just click the button and it asks if you wanna restart TS. You do use the settings - Tools bar within TS not Steam?

Youre absolutely right and it's nothing to worry about. I'll be honest, I must have done this hundreds of times and never noticed that message (it appears at the top of the window, not down below where the other instructions are) until your post the other day.

Click 'yes', you wont break anything!

Hi, maybe you guys can help. I'm downloading Fallout 4. I cleared my cache while it was still downloading and it looks like it reset my F4 downloading progression. So, does clearing cache also reset currently downloading games progress?? Thanks.

If you are using the TS in game cache clear it should not have affected any other games.
