So you cannot couple a Class 158 to a Class 150 or a 156 no? :).
Hello,

I am having a bit of scratching my head dilemma in regards to the Class 158 that comes with the Liverpool to Manchester route which doesn't like to couple to the Class 150 and the Class 156. Many times I have seen the real trains have worked together as all of the second gen DMU's have the BSI couplers. So what's the deal here then? I have no problem in ripping apart bin files and to edit them if I know what I am looking for. So if anyone could kindly help me out on this, I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,
Ash.

I think it’s mainly because the Class 158 was made by DTG, and the 150 & 156 were made by Oovee. I suppose they just weren't built to be compatible with each other.

Maybe you could find a way to replace the couplings on the 158 with one from either the 156 or the 150 (they couple together without a problem).

This is from the wiki page, you should indeed be able to,

All units have BSI couplers which enable them to work in multiple with Class 150, Class 153, Class 155, Class 156, Class 159 and Class 170 units, as well as units of the same class. However, they cannot work in multiple with Class 165 or Class 166 units due to incompatible wiring arrangements.

I've got a feeling its a bounding box issue. As the trains are having none of it. But the Class 150 and 156 couple together no problem :).

I just tried this, dumped a load of them in freeroam and all coupled up perfectly. I eneded up with a consist starting with a 3 car 170 coupled to a 3 car 159 (the newer DTG one) coupled to a Thompson 2 car 150, coupled to an RSC (Liverpool route) 2 car 158, coupled to an Oovee 2 car 156. All couple easily in FreeRoam, all did so without having to click on the couplers or anything so there must be something the OP is doing wrong.

OP, do you have Auto coupling enabled? Thats my only guess.

Hi Simon.

I will give that a check now. Thanks for the heads up. I will let you know if it works :).
