Unless youre someone who gets off by getting XP points, look in the workshop, there is far better talent there for FREE.
Elphaba hands-down makes great scenarios and for his workshop items I'm very grateful, since I don't make my own scenarios, either. It's also nice to see Elphaba got to the point where he can profit from his hobby. That said, when DTG publishes the DLC, it almost seems to me they're cherry-picking the best scenarios (and perhaps authors) in attempt to monetize the workshop (which did not go well the last time Steam tried that).
The main reason to have scenarios available through the Marketplace is possibility to use additional assets (eg sounds). I don't know if this is the case though.
My fear is the DTG scenarios (like the default ones that come with their routes and loco add-ons) may have a miserable variation of both AI traffic, and task types. Driving a long A-B scenario seeing just one other train type is rather demoralising to say the least; completely unrealistic and not how it was in the early days of Railworks, where RSC scenarios used far more diverse rolling stock, and really mixed-up the driving activities.
So I guess we just have to wait and see for the reviews (ot these new packs) to come in. If interesting great. If dull then forget it!
I run a lot of the workshop scenarios as well, but like I said, see this development as a good thing for the community - there are several authors I would like to see join in so I could support their fine efforts with a my pocketbook.
As for the cost - I find it reasonable - I have spent time trying to make decent and engaging scenarios and failed miserably. It is a lot of work. The amount of time I spend beta-testing for Golden Goldsmith Scenarios is well into the hundred hour mark and I am sure the developer is well into the several hundreds of hours over the past couple of years.
In fact I would even support the workshop allowing donations so we , as players, could reward the efforts of those who dedicate the hours in development and share for our entertainment.
When DTG release a new route, it would be great if there were say at least 20 scenarios that were as well written as the ones here that are being sold.
But anyway, it is just so easy to push the buy button on steam. My wife lets me know about it each and everytime btw after her daily check of our banking account......
