Hi guys,

I'm rather new to TS, but I'm getting heavily involved. I wanted to get some opinions on free routes. I found a few already in the workshop and got them. Majestic Falls Railraod, Niles Canyon Railway, Seebergbhan and Castle Rock Railroad are the ones I've found so far. Are there any others that are completely free (don't require paid DLC) and based on real railroads?

If yoou like British stuff, try UK Trainsim (UKTS) Railworks America for US stuff, there are european sites as well, but some may not be in English

Some of the routes you mentioned such as Majestic Falls are free but you need to have the original routes it mentions for the assets....Adriana is a great short line and if you check out the "third party content discussions" here you can find others as well like The Esthwaite Branch which is off http://www.uktrainsim.com/ and is a 1950's era British railroad that also has a narrow gauge quarry line on it as well.

How about every the Esthwaite branch it only requires the us loco and asset pack which is not expensive. In the market place it also comes with routes like cannon pass exetra ... Exetra

Just FYI, neither Seebergbahn nor Castle Rock are real routes, both of them are fictious.
In the similar vein, there are Hedborough North and Granfield revisited routes in the workshop.
This is not to say, that they are bad or something, just that they are fictious...

Routes based on real life railways usually require several DLC packs, which is understandable, as their creators usually strive for maximum reality possible - this is something the fictious route can safely ignore because of their fictious nature, therefore, their creators don't have to rely on specialized assets and can use generic ones whenever possible.

If you want an absolute great free route (fictious too) than look for Altenburg-Wildau v3.11 from SAD. I love that route, the detail is unbeatable and it doesn't require any assets.

Hello, a very good and large high detail real UK route is available in the link below and free, route is still being worked on as very big, free updates from time to time, just bookmark the link below and check back now and then.
The route comes with many scenarios, some complete and others still being worked on, you will need the relevent DLC's to run them if you don't have them already.

Many thanks for this recommendation, Chicken Balti. I have this now - even though I had never used the Utiltiies before, nor done any "unpacking" and installing of rwp files - a whole new dimension to me. So far, I can see this excellent-looking route in Free Roam - but not in Quick Drive - is this normal, or have I missed something? Best to you.

Hello slugwash, I believe you can edit and save the Free Roam section of the route chosen and insert your own Traction/Consist to make it a Quick Drive route, according to developer chaps website.
Not tried that yet as never really done things like that, might have a go at some point myself.
Possibly someone can give some tips as the best method to do so?

Port road on UKTS only needs European Loco and asset pack (buy WCML North, it is included with this route and will save you money and ver just buying the pack)
