Hey railfan no probs firing the engine but have ascertained that water is getting into the boiler but she is such a poor steamer the injectors cannot keep up with the engines demand , you could normaly fire these off the back of the injector, so thinking this engine needs a overhaul and is in poor condition, if this is the case this is a great feature although more could have been said about this in the manual, i dont like clean engines 8-)
4.17 Locomotive Condition
The locomotive condition modes change the steaming performance. Condition 5 will
give you a loco in perfect condition, whereas lower numbers all the way down to 1
will give you worse locomotives. 5 simulates a locomotive “ex-works” with tight
joints and clean tubes etc. 1 simulates a leaky loco in run down condition, and will
thus be harder to drive/make steam.
Most locos in this pack are set to condition 5. However many are set to lower
conditions, which will give varied experiences in Quick Drive Scenarios.
Check section 4/12 in the manual.
..
To add water to the boiler, you should press "O" and "L" as soon as the scenario starts. You may need to press the F5 hud to see the correct information for how much water is in the boiler, as the main display may or may not be correct.
I have several Bossman Games steam locomotives, and they all function the same way. I don't have the 8F, but I do have the Stanier class 5, the Jubilee, the Royal Scot, and the merchant navy.
I hope it was useful.
HEY 8-) must be something im doing has no one else seems to be having any issues, gunna try a scenario rather than quick drive see if that makes any difference, thanks
Both injectors on the loco can be toggled on or off with their respective keyboard
controls. Whilst the loco has water trimming valves, these are already set up in the
correct positions for operation. They will take a few seconds to “pick up”. However,
the water trimming valves may need to be adjusted when the boiler pressure drops
dramatically below the normal operating pressure.
For example, to use the Fireman's side injector:
Injector Water Valve Right – Open by pressing L or by using the mouse
Injector Steam Valve Right - Open by pressing O or by using the mouse
You should hear the injector “pick up” after a few seconds by listening out for a
distinctive “singing” sound.
If the boiler pressure is lower than around 200psi the injector may not work right
away. You will hear the sound of steam blowing out of the injector and you may need
to adjust the Water Trimmer Right until the injector “picks up”.
You can do this with the F4 HUD on. It just takes a bit of practice to find the sweet spot of the Steam valve. Firing you need to do this with the F5 HUD as you fill the fire box up by fire mass which displays in the F5 HUD and the correct fire mass is also in the manual.
