Noise with the Class 444 SWR TS2021
Hi all,

everytime im driving the Class 444 from SWR from Waterloo ( in TS2021) there's a constant alarm that only stops when the brakes are activated and teh train stops. Anyone had the same issue or knows what to do?

Thanks

Which sound are you talking about? If you’re talking about the core whine at low speed when applying power or dynamic brake, that isn’t an alarm. It’s a characteristic of the Siemens traction system. If happens because the inverters run at a frequency within the range of human hearing.

This sound was also produced by the unrefurbished Class 465, interestingly.

It could also be one of two other things.

1. The AWS (Automatic Warning System) triggers when you go over a track magnet and the signal ahead of it is Yellow or Red. If not acknowledged with "Q" within 2-3 seconds the emergency brakes come on. This cannot be switched off.

2. The DSD (Drivers Safety Device) is a monitoring system to check on the driver alert status.
This is a muted bleep, again that triggers every minute or so and must be acknowledged by "Q" or some other key depending on loco (see manual) or brakes will come on.
This can be isolated on most, but not all locos's with "Ctrl+D". The Class 444 can be isolated.

Hope this helps.
