Build your own Layout?
I had Trainz a long time ago and used it exclusively for making my own layouts. Esentially, it was a video train set. Is that still possible with TS18? Reading these discussions it seems like that has been taken out.

The route builder hasn't been removed from TS. The building is I think fairly different from Trainz, but you can still build yourself a layout.

Many people build routes and create scenarios for them. I am continuing to build my route that has been years in the making. I sugeest that you start off small with a simple 'route' which you can use solely as a practise route. Try watching some of these videos to get yourself started. > https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=railworks+routebuilding+tutorials

As Glenn says a lot of people have built their own lines - some quite small but exquisitely detailed like Temsby Port to very large networks like the North Lincs lines. Imho I think most TS players have no idea that TS can be run as a layout though the big issue with running layout style (having never pointed this out before :) ) is that you cannot move to trains not in line of sight - so for example having terminated a train in station A you cannot then move to run a train in station B - very restrictive for layout running.

A work around on small lines though is to hide a small loco (in my case I use a tiny narrow gauge loco) in wayside sheds so you can jump shed to shed to get anywhere on the line.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's time to reload the game.

Either those that answered above or myself have not understood your question.
Are you looking for TANE style room model layouts building (as HO).
There never was such a feature in Train Simulator per se, but the Build Route Editor in TS2018 can do a route that looks as an HO layout.
What you won´t be able is to get a list of standard tracks for a real HO layout.

Anyway, I don´t think you need to reload the game.

No I'm not looking for an actual HO layout tool. Just the ability to make my own rountes in TS. I'll need to reload the game as I took it off my HDD a long while back and haven't played it in ages.

A layout in Train Simulator is referred to as a "Route".
So there my confusion.

I do tend to use TS as a digital train set so I mixed my terms

Please explain "Vidio Train Set"?
I too used to while away the hours day after day and often into the middle of the night (up for work at 5am) building and creating in Trainz. Those were the days. So relaxing creating fictisious lands of hills, fields, lakes, rivers and coast lines.
Unfortunatly the same cannot be said for TS. It is much harder to build a route and the assets you use depend on what DLC you have purchased rather than the free download station in Trainz.
That said I would never go back to Trainz for the actual simulation of driving as TS wins every time hands down.

You can run any line as a 'layout' - I'd term it running your own freeroam scenario - it's what I do most of the time. Once you get proficient at creating your own freeroams, scenarios seem a bit limiting.
Nexium (assuming you have the DLC) download Crabenmore Branch or Temsby Port from the workshop if you want to see what TS is capable of - these are lines created by talented individuals.
