Southern steam routes
Is there many if any southern steam routes? I'm fine with what I have in terms of LMS and GWR lines but the only southern one I have is the somerset dorset joint railway and its a bit repetitive these days. Any suggestions?

SteamSoundsSupreme has the Southampton-Weymouth route. Exceptionally well done route in my opinion. Perfect for SR and SR(BR) steam.

Problem with southern is there isn't really enough SR stock to be able to run a nice freeroam and that includes the third party suppliers. We're best supplied for GWR, lots of locos, coaches and wagons and more on the way too. LNER is next best , followed by LMS, a fair selection of coaches but a bit limited for wagons. Obviously can widen the options by running in BR days but you get the point, I do like the grouping liveries myself.

True. There's maybe 3 tender engines and 3 tank engines that I know of. Plus a majority of the Southern freight comes with the Q1, but then it's just containers and flats.

The Q1 is on the to get list and it's the only one I know of that comes with freight stock. Unfortunately the rest come with nothing but southern coaching stock and crammed into the WSR route, even the S15 which was meant to be freight comes with coaches only. The only real options I have is using them in the BR era mixed in with Standard class loco's.

Southern Region steam isn't all that bad. Gives you plenty more options. Though in regards to SR freight, I've seen some consists with bits of LMS and GWR stock coupled in. Maybe a stray NE wagon here and there. I'm pretty sure it really depends on the route but doesn't hurt to "stretch" things a little every now and then.

I think I'm doing some stretching with the scenario I'm working on already, A standard 4MT in GWR territory :steamhappy: As for the SR I'll probably get creative since they set up 3rd rail rather early so I might get away with something.

Bang on cue, enter stage left. Well this is a cosy little friends gathering.

David, when you say Southern do you mean Railway, (Grouping) or Southern Region, (British Railways/Rail)?

You must be aware of these routes from DTG which are BR Southern Region and post BR.
Portsmouth Direct Line
London Faversham High Speed
London Brighton
South London Network
Isle of Wight
Victoria Chatham
As cheapskate has mentioned, the SSS Southampton-Weymouth route is excellent.

There is a good Tonbridge- Hastings route here. Link removed but it's at backdatedtrainsim
http://backdatedtrainsim.weebly.com/route-downloads.html

As for stock the Marketplace has some nice Bullied carriages.
Digital Traction have an M7 loco and some SR Vans PLVs etc.

That's all off the top of my head atm.

I agree that the Southern Railway is a bit lacking stock wise but there is a fair amount of traction that can be pieced together from various sources

Light Pacific (DT, now Steam Sounds Supreme)
Rebuilt Light Pacific (Just Trains and now on Steam)
S15 Class (Steam)
M7 Class (DT)
Q1 (Steam, Victory Works)
U Class and Schools Class (Steam Loco Collection)
Merchant Navy Class (IHH Not available at moment)
N15 Class (Steam)
E2 Class (Steam Sounds Supreme)

I think that's all of them

There's a nice Isle of Wight steam route with an Adams 02.

SSS have a Brighton Terrier or 2 too. Oh and a Billington somethingy loco. Not sure if their sale is still on.
