Reverser on Stanier 8F
Yesterday I bought the BMG Stanier 8F which looks a fine product. But I can't get the reverser to work. When I move it flies back to 0%. I have tried using the 'E' key but it makes no difference. Nor have I been able to find any guidance in the manual. If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Are you keeping E pressed down while you move it?

Yes, I hold the E key whilst pressing W or S but as soon as I release the E key the reverser flies back to zero.

Slap me round the back of the head with a damp herring if i'm talking crap (being a relative newbie) but have you checked the gameplay status on the settings?. I've found it has a mind of it's own and can change from advanced to simple which would make the reverser inop'. Good luck!!

The gameplay setting is 'Expert'.

I have the 8F which came with the Woodhead route purchased on the cheap from steam and it works fine in 'expert' but flies back in 'simple'. Unusual for BMG stuff to malfunction if so. Strange days indeed mama, strange days indeed.. (John Lennon)

The reversers on the BMG locos have an odd quirk. On the F3/F4 HUD, the reverser will only show 100%, 0%, and -100% as for whatever reason, the HUD will only display the direction the handle is being wound. If you want to see the actual position of the cut-off, you either need to look in-cab or use the F5 HUD.

Hello all, there is no bug with the reverser on some TS Pro engines that replicate more realistic real world operation. The reverser will slam (or spin) into full forward gear if the regulator is more than cracked open, or refuse to move from full forward gear. This simulates the real world huge steam pressures acting on the valve gear, many tons of pressure PSi when the regulator is open.
As an instructor on real world steam locomotives, closing the regulator (especially from second valve settings) before adjusting the reverser, is one important part of training new drivers for their own safety. Broken bones and injured hands, as reversers fly about, is one thing to avoid.
The HUD F4 settings on Pro engines, do not always replicate 'actual' engine control settings, as manuals explain. You will need to use the F5 display and cab gauges, reverser visual indicators to drive.
Best.
