AWS Emergency Application
I have been playing a few different senarios on various UK routes. AWS activates and I can press Q or hold Q and it will still set my train into emergency. Am I missing something? I checcked my speed, it was even below the posted speed restriction I was approaching.
This has happened on most UK routes, sometimes the reset works, sometimes it doesn't. Am I missing something?

The only UK route I know where the AWS doesn't work via the keyboard is Wherry Lines.

Hello, I think you posibly mean AWS. Once the AWS has activated with a horn sound and you are late pressing Q to cancel, the emergency brake will activate and your train will come to a stop. There is nothing you can do until your train has stopped and you then have to re-set your brake system. Close your power handle first when this happens.
Once stopped, then press Q to cancel the AWS horn warning sound, place your direction selector in the centre position, place your independent engine only brake to on (if fitted) return your train brake to the release position and then destroy the brake to emergency position again. Pause, and then return the train brake to the release postion watching your Duplex brake gauge.
Place your direction selector to forward and take a small amount of power by opening your power handle a little, confirm you have power by watching your Amps rise on the gauge, last of all, release your engine only brake (if fitted) and return your train brake to the running postion.
That is the correct way to prevent your train rolling backwards on a gradiant when stopped and re-setting your brake.
You only have around five to seven seconds to cancel the AWS once activated before signals or speed reduction warning signs, any longer than that and the emergency brake will activate.
Best.

Thanks Chicken, I did mean AWS. Edited the main post.

See, I am pressing "Q" before the train goes into penalty. I tried holding "Q" and I have tried pressing "Q" multiple times rapidly.
On one senario, I was arriving into Kings Cross and the AWS went off three times. One of those times I was outside the cab and missed the alerter. My fault. The second time, I was going the track speed of 35kph and passed the speed reduction warning sign for 30kph. Pounding the "Q", I still went into penalty. Released the brakes and pulled up to the next signal, and again, AWS went off. Press and hold "Q" and I still went into penalty.

35 kph - Kings Cross? Hmm... I am wondering if something else is happening here, like maybe you are getting speeds confused? UK speeds are almost exclusively in MPH not KPH (Unless I have missed something changing in 'modern' times - tho' I doubt it). Just a thought.

Could be, I am using whatever numbers are showing. It could be KPH, or MPH, I am not sure. They read out on all of the screens and HUD all read the same. I thought UK used metric, not imperial measurement system. I am using the Class 91 on a UK route, so it would make sense that whatever measurement system the train uses, the route is using for speed as well.

I did notice in my last attempt on one of the senarios I kept going into penalty, I was running on greens, and then I got a double yellow. Even while mashing the reset, I still went into penalty (brakes set, no throttle).
Nothing I have seen in the manual makes me think that this is normal, unless it is an event in the senario that causes the problem. Next time I play this senario, I will take a photo of it and post it.

On all UK routes in TS, speed is shown in MPH (not KPH). When you approach a double or single yellow signal the AWS alerter will sound when you pass over a ramp approx; 200 yards ( 180 Mtrs) from the signal and the large square with the exclamation mark in it on the HUD will "light up". You then have around 2 seconds in which to accept/cancel it by pressing "Q" or the brakes will come on.
Be aware also the the C91 you mention also has a "Drivers Vigilance Device" which bleeps at you every minute or so. You have to listen for this as notvisusl warning is given. Press "Q" as above to cancel/accept.

Hope this helps.

Apart from the Kent High Speed line which also uses KMH :)
OP, is your Caps Lock on? (not sure if it matters, but worth a try.) Have you made sure your ''Q'' works normally out of the game? If not maybe try to locate the in-cab AWS acknowledge button, a pain I know but easier than going into EB :)
If you play with the HUD, you can also press the yellow and black striped box to cancel the alarm.
In the UK we also have Train Potection Warning System, whereby if you are over the speed limit in a dangerous spot (linke a terminus station) the EB applies. Most modern routes have TPWS.

If I'm correct, Kings Cross have Speed Magnets near the buffers at the end of each platform where if you are not under 5MPH your E-BRAKES will kick in, this might be the reason it might not.

That's TPWS right? I think Glasgow Queen Street has them too.

Thanks ! I learned something new.

Are you sure you're not accidentally going through a red light, it's easy done especially near big stations where you can have red lights which don' t change as you approach because you need the signalman's permission to pass. When you accidentially pass, exactly what you describe happens.

I tried the senario again. Caps is not on, and neither is the alterer/driver vigilance, I have that turned off. A few of the times I noticed I had not fully shut off the throttle. After I realized that I would make sure it was at 0% before I got to the magnet. Seemed to work. I was probably also running a little to hot the whole time. I will keep playing with the senario to see what I can come up with, but I think it was my stupid train handling.
Thanks for the help, it was much appreciated! Also appreciated the lesson on KPH/MPH!
