Has anyone broken a locomotive LMS Coronation Class "Duchess of Hamilton" in advanced control mode up to 100 miles per hour?
I couldn’t overclock more than 81 miles in advanced control mode.
During a press run on 29 June 1937, 6220 set a new speed record on the West Coast Main Line. Driver TJ. Clarke and fireman C. Lewis (with Robert Riddles (engineer) and inspector S. Miller on the footplate), pushed the Stanier pioneer to a claimed speed of 114 miles per hour on Madeley Bank south of Crewe, which broke the previous record of 113 mph set by the rival LNER.Wikipedia.

Well I brought the LNER A2 Blue Peter up to 100 mph on the ECMl going towards Peterborough, top speed was 103 mph in advanced control mode.........however it took me 50 miles to get there.

I also got the JT Princess Royal/Duchess up to 114 going down Shap! ;)

So based on that I'd hazard a guess you can in this, just that it won't be easy.

Hell before they brought the Castle Speed achievement down to 75 mph, it was 100 mph, never quite got there, the closest was 98.6 on the GWML, and then they decided to lower it to 75 mph! *grmpf*

It went from a tough, worthy challenge to no challenge at all.

BTW @Evgeny that was the BRITISH speed record, since at the 11th of May 1936 05 002 had already taken the WORLD Speed Record at 200,4 km/h or 124,52 mph!

Something that recent british publications, including the BBC are fond of glossing over, unlike their predecessors.

Sadly germansteam.co.uk which had an excellent article on it, seems to be out of order.

The fastest I've ever got an engine was 127 mph...admittedly using an A4.

On level track or a downhill gradient?

Must say I like the A4s but I haven't had the time to learn the intracicies of driving it at the limit yet. I have spent more time on the routes that the LMS Duchesses ran on in their day........on that note I hope that one day we can have more class members for period scenarios.

The A4 is a solid performer and I went past 110 mph more than a few times, but not yet near the magic 125 mph! ;)

145mph in a Castle with ten on... going down hill in Sherman Hill.

I attained 127 going downhill on the Settle-Carlisle route.
